How we score games

GameBrief uses a 0–10 score where 10 is exceptional and 5 is middling. Scores reflect the build we played (see version / patch notes on the review card when provided).

Rough bands

  • 8–10 — Strong recommendation; standout craft, value, or innovation for the audience we write for.
  • 6–7.9 — Solid; worth playing if you like the genre, with caveats called out in the text.
  • Below 6 — Weak or deeply flawed for our bar; read the review for why, not just the number.

What scores are not

They are not a mathematical average of sub-scores unless we say so in a specific feature. They are editorial judgments informed by technical performance, design, narrative (where relevant), and how well the release serves players at launch.
