GuideOver the Hill
Over the Hill Car List: All 21 Vehicles and Unlock Trails
Three cars in the garage on day one, eighteen more behind challenge trails, and four classes that decide how each one drives.
VerdictStart in whichever starter you like, unlock The Trail Burner for speed and save your hardest climbs for Das Mammoth or The Marshal.
The Over the Hill car list has 21 vehicles at launch. You own three from the first minute and win the other eighteen by finishing challenge trails, one car per trail. Our call: keep a starter for the first region, unlock The Trail Burner on Windy Joe Trail as your cruiser, and save the ugliest climbs for Das Mammoth or The Marshal, the two heavyweights.

Funselektor has not published a full roster. The list below comes from two fan databases built from the game files, overthehill.app and overthehilldb.com, which agree on every name, starter and unlock trail. For the wider launch picture, start at our Over the Hill guide hub.

Funselektor's release-date post splits the launch map into Canada and Algeria regions. Going by the place names, Emerald Lake, Gimli Ridge and Asgard Mountain are the Canadian areas, and Tassili n'Ajjer and the Aurès are the Algerian ones. Our Over the Hill map guide covers what the official material says about those areas. Each unlock trail also pays out pebbles, the currency for upgrades.

The four classes decide how a car drives
Class is the big lever. Weight, winch strength, steering lock and engine all come from the class, so every car in a class drives the same on those numbers. Engine figures below are stock and fully upgraded (Engine Stage 3).
| Class | Cars | Mass | Winch pull | Steering lock | Torque, stock to Stage 3 | Top speed, stock to Stage 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trail | 9 | 1,600 kg | 25 kN | 38° | 100 to 112 Nm | 27 to 34 km/h |
| Wagon | 5 | 2,000 kg | 32 kN | 33° | 125 to 151 Nm | 29 to 36 km/h |
| Workhorse | 5 | 2,800 kg | 44 kN | 28° | 175 to 207 Nm | 22 to 29 km/h |
| Expedition | 2 | 3,200 kg | 51 kN | 28° | 200 to 256 Nm | 20 to 27 km/h |
Funselektor's own pitch for the four lines up with those numbers. In its "Four categories" short, the light SUV is "your step-by-step climber", the next one "just wants to cruise" on flowing trails, the third "is a purposeful mule" that muscles slowly through whatever is in the way, and the last is the "heaviest of the four" and "nothing stops it". Matching each line to a class is our reading, but the weights leave little doubt.
GODEEPER: Playing with friends means mixing classes in one convoy. Our Over the Hill co-op guide covers party size, cross-play and how progress is saved per player.
Which car to unlock first
Stay in a starter for Emerald Lake. All three starters are Trail class, the lightest cars with the sharpest steering. That is what a step-by-step climb wants. Pick by looks; the numbers barely differ, though The Ding rides a little lower on 0.45 m of suspension travel against 0.55 m on the other two.
Get The Trail Burner next. Windy Joe Trail sits in Emerald Lake, and the Wagon class tops out faster than anything else. A lot of the game is driving between points of interest, and this is the car that gets you there sooner.
The Burro is the other Emerald Lake prize. It is the first Workhorse and the first car with a cargo bed. Pick it up if you want a heavier truck for recovery work before the later regions.

Das Mammoth is the one to save for. Lower Midgar Trail in Asgard Mountain unlocks it. Expedition is the heaviest class with the most torque and the strongest winch, and Das Mammoth adds large work tyres, 0.70 m of suspension travel and a cargo bed. One Steam reviewer went straight for it: "Went straight for the Das Mammoth, totally worth it."
The Marshal is the desert twin. Same class, same tyres, same suspension travel, minus the bed. It comes from Shabah Ascent in the Tassili n'Ajjer Desert.
The cost of the heavy pair is speed. Fully upgraded, an Expedition truck tops out around where a stock Trail car starts, so it is a climbing tool, not a commuter.
Same class, different car: tyres and suspension
Class sets the engine, but tyres, suspension and size are per vehicle, and they split some classes wide open.
- Large work tyres have the most grip on paper and come on four cars: The Blast Wagon, The Boar, Das Mammoth and The Marshal.
- Small camper tyres have the least, and two cars wear them: Das Rust Ox and The Polyana. Das Rust Ox is a Workhorse with the weakest tyres in its class, offset by 0.60 m of travel.
- Suspension travel runs from 0.35 m on Das Lynx to 0.70 m on the Expedition pair. Das Lynx and The Polyana have the least travel in the game, so they have the least give over rocks.

Grip is not the whole story in snow. One reviewer describes a climb where "my car gets zero grip ANYWHERE in the snow so I have to use my winch pins constantly". If a snowy region keeps stopping you, a heavier class with a stronger winch is the fix, not a different paint job.
Upgrades and pebbles: what to know before you grind
The overthehill.app database lists every upgrade as available on every car, so picking the wrong car never locks you out of one. Upgrades cost pebbles, which come from trails, photos and meteorites.
Two patches matter here. The October 16 update fixed repeat trail runs not paying pebbles, so replaying a finished challenge trail is a legitimate way to fund upgrades now. The October 19 update fixed portable winch anchors that sometimes refused to pull. Both are in Funselektor's Steam announcements.
Upgrades are worth buying early. A reviewer notes that "even tier 1 upgrades will have a big impact on how your vehicle feels." Engine Stage 3 is the difference between the stock and top figures in the class table.

How we checked this
Nobody at GameBrief has played the full game, so nothing here is a handling impression. The roster, classes, unlock trails, tyres and suspension numbers come from overthehill.app's vehicle page and the overthehilldb.com car list, both built from the game files and in full agreement on names, starters and unlock trails. Funselektor's August progress update confirms four vehicle categories, its demo announcement confirms that trails unlock vehicles and pebbles buy upgrades, and we stepped through the 28-second "Four categories" short second by second on October 22, 2026. Player comments come from the most helpful English Steam reviews that day.
