GuideOver the Hill

Over the Hill system requirements and Steam Deck status

Steam lists Windows and Linux requirements, but its Deck label remains Unknown and the developer's Linux notes conflict with the store listing.

VerdictThe Windows minimums are clear; Steam Deck compatibility is Unknown and Linux support needs a careful reading.

Steam's current PC listing gives a clear Windows minimum, but its Linux and handheld labels need context. Over the Hill system requirements specify a CPU, graphics card, memory, storage, and internet connection. The store lists a SteamOS + Linux requirement group, while Funselektor's FAQ says a native Linux version is not planned. Steam also labels Over the Hill steam deck compatibility “Unknown.” The Over the Hill guide hub collects the rest of the launch coverage.

Over the Hill system requirements on Steam

Steam lists these Windows minimums and says the specs were tested at FullHD resolution.

Windows minimumSteam listing
Processor and OS64-bit processor and operating system; Windows 10
ProcessorIntel Core i5-7400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
Memory8 GB RAM
GraphicsNvidia GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX 5600
DirectXVersion 11
NetworkBroadband internet connection
Storage4 GB available space

These are minimum requirements, not a frame-rate or graphics-preset promise. Steam's Windows Recommended block only repeats that a 64-bit processor and operating system are required. It does not name a higher CPU, RAM amount, graphics card, or storage target. The older release and platform overview recorded the Windows list before launch; this page adds the live Deck label and Linux caveat.

What does Over the Hill steam deck status mean?

The Steam store page displays Steam Deck Compatibility: Unknown. Valve defines Unknown as a game it has not checked for compatibility. It is not a positive rating, a “Playable” result, or a declaration that the game is unsupported.

The label therefore does not establish whether the released build has legible text, controller prompts, a working launcher, or stable performance on Deck. Valve's compatibility guide describes the categories and checks. This guide does not benchmark the retail Deck build or publish settings. Our Moonlighter 2 Steam Deck guide covers a different game and should not be read as a performance comparison.

Does Steam list Linux support?

Yes: the current store page shows a SteamOS + Linux requirements group. It repeats the Windows CPU, 8 GB RAM, GPU, broadband, and 4 GB storage entries, but does not show an operating-system line or DirectX requirement.

Funselektor's pinned developer FAQ says a native Linux version is not planned and describes running the game through Proton on Steam Deck as the team's goal. The developer's answer and Steam's current platform listing are in tension. The listing alone does not confirm that a native Linux executable ships, so check both statements rather than treating the SteamOS + Linux block as proof of a native build.

How to use these requirements

For Windows, compare your processor and graphics card with the named minimums, then check for 8 GB RAM, DirectX 11, broadband, and 4 GB available space. Steam does not publish a higher Windows recommended spec, a frame-rate target, or graphics presets here. Its FullHD note gives a test resolution, not a promise about how the game will run on every qualifying PC.

If you are choosing a Linux desktop, the store's Linux group and Funselektor's FAQ do not line up. If you are choosing a handheld, Unknown is simply not a compatibility review. Our release-date article covers the platform timeline, and the official trailer breakdown separates footage from claims that require a written source.

GODEEPER: For online play details, see the Over the Hill co-op guide. Steam's broadband entry is the only network requirement listed here; it does not state a speed threshold.
