Over the Hill Patch Notes: Every Update Since Launch

Funselektor has shipped four patches in nine days. The first fixed the two loudest complaints; the latest brings back missing cosmetics.

VerdictIf invisible terrain or a stingy Pebble economy put you off, 26.10.16 fixed both. Grab 26.10.22 if a cosmetic was out of stock when you cleared an area.

Over the Hill patch notes so far cover four updates, all in the game's first nine days. Funselektor launched the off-road game on Steam on October 14, 2026, shipped the first post-launch update two days later, a minor patch and a cosmetics hotfix on October 19, then update 26.10.22 on October 23. Two of them matter most. The October 16 update fixed invisible terrain on older graphics cards and made repeat trail runs pay Pebbles. Update 26.10.22 put the cosmetics that had run out of stock back into the world.

Why does 26.10.22 carry the 22nd in its name but date from the 23rd? When we read SteamCMD's app data on October 26, it listed the same build (ID 26136884) on a "public-beta" branch updated October 22. SteamDB's build log shows it reaching the main branch on October 23 at 14:11 UTC, five minutes before Funselektor posted the notes. The beta branch has since moved on: on October 29 it carried a newer build, uploaded October 28, under the label "Preview of upcoming updates", with no patch notes posted yet.

Update 26.10.22_e485fc9: missing cosmetics are back

If you cleared every area early, some cosmetics may have been "out of stock" when you got there. Funselektor said it "had to pull some off the shelves due to shortages in another region." This update adds "new crates to all areas with missing cosmetics", and the studio said the mechanic dropped them "across Canada and Algeria." It also names one specific case: the missing Sparewheel Machete now has a crate in R2A2, Aures Mountains.

Crackling audio. There's a new launch option, "-disable-directinput", that Funselektor calls a "potential fix for crackling/popping audio" on certain audio devices. It isn't applied automatically: add it in the game's Steam properties. If the crackle survives it, the studio asks you to email your log files through its Steam discussions post.

The rest of the changelog, grouped:

  • Achievements: driving in a snow storm now counts as driving in snow for the Snowcat achievement, and vehicle achievements that sometimes failed to unlock are fixed.
  • Co-op and lobby: joining while the server browser was still connecting no longer reports the room as full; cars no longer glitch into each other when two players restart a trail at the same time; the lobby reorders cars when a player leaves; the lobby map's spawn button works when you switch between mouse and gamepad; the Join button is translated.
  • Livery mods: fixed stutter and freezes at launch with many livery mods installed, modded liveries resetting in the main menu after a restart, and The Ding missing from the mod browser's filters.
  • Controls and camping: zoom buttons can be rebound on a controller, and camping no longer softlocks when zoom and interact share a key.
  • Linux: DLSS4 is available, and the bug reporting tool is back in Linux builds.
  • World and cosmetics: animal spawn positions, a fox's sideways movement when scared, a stump inside the fishing dinghy next to Elizabeth Lake Cabin, the portable winch anchor rarely vanishing without being placed, the compendium jumping back to the first photo, and the Boat cosmetic for bedded trucks not being awarded.

Funselektor also said that "in the next few days" it would add 10 Steam trading cards, profile badges, and over the hill backgrounds and emoticons in the Points Shop.

October 19 hotfix: 26.10.19_b8daf8d

The second patch of the day was one line. Funselektor said it improved "the behavior of some cosmetics (e.g. whip lights now move)."

Some players also noticed a missing horn. "Yeah been removed for me but nothing i could find in the small patch notes," u/Thatsatnetennba wrote about the Dixie horn the day after. Funselektor hasn't commented on it in its update posts.

October 19 Minor Update: 26.10.19_61ec20e

Funselektor called this "another small-scale patch aimed at fixing some minor issues to localization, livery mods and winch anchors." The full changelog:

Improvements

  • Better anti-aliasing on the incline indicators.
  • A decimal separator on the merchant's odometer, so you can see how many kilometres you've driven in a vehicle.
  • Max in-game time difference between players cut to 2 minutes (it was 10).

Fixes

  • Missing text in the intro cinematic.
  • A missing grassland translation.
  • The Northern Belle track was misspelled as "Nothern Bell".
  • Subscribing to livery mods that use relative texture paths could stop other mods from loading.
  • The portable winch anchor sometimes couldn't be winched even inside the radius.

The time sync change is the one co-op groups will notice. Our Over the Hill co-op guide covers how sessions work. The livery fix matters if you use livery mods. There's no Steam Workshop for the game: liveries come from mod.io, through a mod browser built into the game.

First post-launch update: 26.10.16_57fb763

This was the big one. Two fixes headline it.

Invisible terrain on older GPUs. Some older cards, "e.g. Nvidia GTX series", rendered the terrain invisible. Before the patch the workaround was the "-msTessOnce 0" launch option. Now the fix "will apply automatically with the update, whether or not you've used the launch option." If you added the option, you don't need it anymore. Our system requirements page has the full spec list.

Pebbles for repeat runs. Recovery missions and challenge trails now pay Pebbles on later completions, not only the first time. The patch also moved meteorite spawn points in every area. Funselektor's aim was that "everyone should now have a better time collecting the in-game currency and upgrading their vehicles."

Players liked the change, though not every trail is worth farming. "Amazing change for playing a map again for completing missions," u/CrestfallenMerchant wrote. u/Hogs-o-War was less sold: "I redid the first trail of the game and wasn't super impressed with earning 3 Pebbles. LOL" Crates don't count, according to u/zcrc: "No trails only as far as I can tell." For where to spend what you earn, see our Over the Hill upgrades guide.

The rest of the changelog:

Improvements

  • Reworked camera collision.
  • A streamer mode option in the HUD settings that hides the room code in the lobby and pause menu.
  • Weather effects now speed up correctly while camping.
  • The center of mass for The Ding was adjusted.

Fixes

  • Some achievements couldn't be unlocked by players who had played the Next Fest demo. Our achievements list covers every one.
  • The Pebble counter glitched when photographing animals.
  • Clients could load forever when taking a portal after camping in the same session.
  • Rare white particles along terrain creases, odd waterfall particles in the second area of The Valhallas, and misplaced Canada cabin decorations.
  • Areas 1 and 2 of Canada weren't translated.
  • Server list glitches, a name padding mismatch on the map view, and tents that could vanish when camping twice in a short span.

Launch: October 14, 2026

Over the Hill launched on Steam at $24.99 for Windows and Steam Deck, with a 20% launch discount for its first 14 days. Steam lists Windows and Linux support. Funselektor said it "can't wait to bring the game to more platforms and systems in the future", without naming any. Launch details, review scores and the Supporter Edition are in our Over the Hill launch roundup.

What's next? In the October 19 notes, Funselektor told players to "expect to see more updates focusing on QoL and bug-fixing in the coming weeks" while it works on "fresh new content". Update 26.10.22 was more of the same. It hasn't given dates or named any new maps or vehicles. Our car list and map guide cover what's in the game now.

Our take

Four patches in nine days, and the first one went straight at the two loudest complaints: invisible terrain and an economy that made replaying trails pointless. That's a good sign for a self-published game. The Pebble change is real but small. Three Pebbles for an early trail won't change how you play, so meteorites and new trails are still the faster route. Update 26.10.22 is mostly cleanup, but the restocked cosmetics are a quiet fix for the players who finished first and found empty shelves. If the terrain bug kept you off the game, it's worth another try.

How we checked this

We haven't played Over the Hill, so this isn't hands-on. Every patch note above comes from Funselektor's own update posts on Steam, read on October 23 and again on October 26, 2026, when we added update 26.10.22; on October 29 we checked the feed again and found no newer post. The branch dates come from SteamCMD's public app data and SteamDB's build log. Launch price and platforms come from Steam's store data, and the mod.io detail from the game's official livery modding guide. Player reactions come from the update threads on r/overthehillgame. Screenshots are from the official Steam store page.
