Diablo 5 Release Date: Spring 2029 and BlizzCon 2026 Recap

Blizzard gave Diablo V a season, a premise, a hero and three classes, but no platforms or price. Here is that, and every other date BlizzCon 2026 put on the calendar.

VerdictSpring 2029 is a window, not a date: no platforms, price or beta are announced, so the Diablo IV Amazon pack in the first half of 2027 is the next thing you can actually play.

The Diablo 5 release date is Spring 2029. Blizzard announced it at the BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony on September 12: "Diablo V is officially in development and coming Spring 2029." That is a season, not a day, and Blizzard has not named platforms, a price or a beta. Below is what it did say, plus every other date the show put on the calendar.

What Blizzard announced about Diablo V

The pitch is short. "Sanctuary has fallen. Diablo won." Blizzard says that "for the first time, players will enter a Sanctuary where Diablo has triumphed and its heroes have been defeated," and frames the game around one question: "what must you become when the world has already fallen?"

The reveal came with a Main Stage panel at 1:45 p.m. PT on September 12, where host Johanna Faries and the Diablo V team previewed story, world-building and "class design philosophy". Blizzard's write-up of that panel, "Diablo V: Forging the Next Era", names the first three classes: the Demon Hunter with twin crossbows, the Monk, and the all-new Plague Knight, which spreads disease and then consumes it for power. Blizzard says the launch roster will be the biggest in the series.

You play the Heir to Westmarch, moving through a Sanctuary that Diablo keeps reshaping: terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards can change when you return. There are no safe towns; a caravan of survivors travels with you instead.

Gear leans on Diablo II. Blizzard is experimenting with stat requirements on items, larger items take up more inventory slots again, sets return, and crafting uses Diablo II-style Runes and Runewords.

Blizzard also announced an animated Diablo series in development with Netflix, with no date.

Spring 2029 gives the Diablo IV team a long runway. On r/Diablo, u/ButtNutBerry asked "why announce this so soon. There's 3 years to wait." Elsewhere in the thread, u/noyx_ pointed at the other date on the slide: "Before starcraft lol".

  • Amazon class pack, first half of 2027. Diablo IV's first class pack. The Amazon comes from Skovos, uses bows and the javelin, a weapon type that is new to Diablo IV, and has four archetypes: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger and Commander. Blizzard says more class pack details come later.
  • Season of Hell's Legacy, from September 15, 2026. The 30th anniversary season brings back Deckard Cain and the Prime Evils Baal, Mephisto and Diablo.
  • Nintendo Switch 2, September 15, 2026. The Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection bundles the base game, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred.

Blizzard puts the series at "more than 130 million players worldwide" across the franchise. And the cow is back: BlizzCon brought the return of "the udderly malevolent Moophisto". If you'd rather fight cows elsewhere, players found a Diablo 2 Cow Level nod built with sheep in Mortal Shell 2's Rotten Autumn update.

Our take

A Diablo 5 release date of Spring 2029 is two and a half years out, and Blizzard gave a season, a premise and three classes, but nothing a buyer can act on. We'd treat it as a promise, not a plan. The open question is when Blizzard shows gameplay and names platforms. Until then the Amazon pack is the next new Diablo you can play, and if you want dungeon loot now, Moonlighter 2 is a good place to start.

How we checked this

On October 28, 2026 we read Blizzard's BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony recap and its Diablo recap, both posted September 12, 2026, and the WoW Forever pre-purchase post. On October 29 we added Blizzard's Diablo V panel write-up, posted after the panel on September 12, and checked its class, world and item details against Game Rant, Yahoo, Maxroll and Gadget Pilipinas coverage of the panel. None of these names Diablo V platforms, a price or a beta. We haven't seen Diablo V beyond Blizzard's announcement and panel. The Reddit replies come from r/Diablo's thread on the reveal.
