Risk of Rain 2 Shrine of Order: Sequencing, Acrid Unlock

The shrine that wrecks builds is also the only way to unlock Acrid's new Special, and where you use it seems to matter.

VerdictBank a Lunar Coin, beat Mithrix as Acrid, charge the Rescue Ship most of the way, then sequence on the moon's floating rocks and get back. Skip the earlier shrines for this challenge.

The Risk of Rain 2 Shrine of Order takes one Lunar Coin and sequences your inventory: each rarity tier collapses into a single item you already own, picked at random. Most runs should walk past it. It's also the only way to unlock Acrid's new Special, Cloying Breath, and the route that keeps showing up in successful player reports is the guaranteed shrine on the moon, used after Mithrix dies.

About the game

Risk of Rain 2

Hopoo Games · Gearbox Publishing

The challenge is Acrid: Miracle, part of the free update that shipped alongside the Hallowed Concepts DLC on October 8, 2026. You don't need the DLC for it. Steam's text is one line: "As Acrid, beat the game after sequencing your items at least once." On October 23, Steam's global stats put it at 0.5% of Risk of Rain 2 players.

How to unlock Acrid: Miracle (quick answer)

Play Acrid to Commencement with at least one Lunar Coin banked. Kill Mithrix, charge the Rescue Ship most of the way, fly out to the shrine on the floating rocks behind the Pillars of Mass area, pay the coin, and get back into the ship's zone before the 3-minute escape timer ends. Whatever the roll does to your items, all that's left is the walk back to the ship, and without movement items that walk is where runs fail.

The100courts put it plainly five days after launch: "you can just hit the guaranteed shrine of order on commencement after killing mithrix and it counts towards the achievement."

Step-by-Step: sequence on the moon after Mithrix

1. Start as Acrid with a Lunar Coin banked: Lunar Coins carry over between runs, so one coin from an earlier game is enough. The Acrid player has to use the shrine personally. A co-op partner paying for it doesn't count for you.

2. Ignore the earlier shrines for this challenge: The wiki says a shrine at any point before the win counts. Launch-week reports say otherwise for Rallypoint Delta and Conduit Canyon (more on that below), so don't wreck a build on stage 3 or 4 for a challenge you can finish on the moon.

3. Beat Mithrix: Nothing changes here. If he's the wall, our Mithrix guide covers all four phases and the escape that follows.

4. Charge the Rescue Ship most of the way: When Mithrix dies you get 3 minutes to reach the Rescue Ship and finish its holdout, which takes 1 minute inside the zone. DareEcco's version of the route: "charge the ship to 90% then go for the shrine of order, the walk to the ship is your only struggle at that point". Sevrid, who started that thread, reported back on October 11: "Thanks a lot was able to do this strat to unlock it!"

5. Find the floating rocks past the Pillars of Mass: The wiki places the shrine "on a floating rock behind the area where Pillars of Mass spawn", which is the left side of the map when you start from the Rescue Ship. The100courts adds that it's "just beyond the cave that houses the pillars of mass", out in the open. Time-Fig-1193 warns: "You need a lot of movement to reach it".

6. Pay one Lunar Coin and head straight back: Whatever the roll does to your items, the only job left is getting back into the ship's zone before the timer runs out. That walk is where this route fails. TheGreatAut says it bluntly: "If you don't get movement items you would probably lose".

7. Check the Special row in the lobby: Back at character select, open Acrid's Loadout tab. Cloying Breath is the second icon in the Special row, next to Epidemic.

What the Shrine of Order actually does

The game calls it sequencing. For each rarity tier on its own (Common, Uncommon, Legendary, Boss, Void and Lunar), the shrine picks one item type you hold and converts every other item in that tier into it. You keep the same number of items; they just become one stack.

The catch is how the pick works. The odds are split evenly by item type, not by how many copies you own. The wiki's example: 20 Medkits and 1 Soldier's Syringe is a 50% chance of 21 Medkits and a 50% chance of 21 Syringes. The stack you built has no extra weight.

What you're holdingWhat the shrine does
Several item types in one tierPicks one type at random, equal odds per type, and turns the rest of the tier into it
One item type in a tierNothing, because that type is the only possible pick
ScrapCounts as an item of its tier, so a whole tier can become scrap
Pearl or Irradiant PearlBoss tier, so one can turn into the other, or into another boss item
Tonic Afflictions, hidden itemsUntouched

Our interactables guide files it under "use it late, if at all", and the per-type odds are the reason. A run built around one stack per tier is fine; a run with eight different whites is gambling eight ways.

Where to find the Shrine of Order

It only appears on three stages, and two of them always have one.

StageSpawnWhere
Rallypoint Delta (stage 3)RareRandom shrine slot, not guaranteed
Conduit Canyon (stage 4, Alloyed Collective)AlwaysLeft side of the stage, on the cliffside near the entrance; a free Temporary Item Distributor sits on a ledge below
Commencement (the moon)AlwaysFloating rocks behind the Pillars of Mass area, left of the map from the Rescue Ship

Conduit Canyon is the other route people use. Awesomeman204's case for it: sequence first, then "you can then loot the rest of the map to make up for it (including the legendary)". You still have to beat that stage's Teleporter boss with whatever the roll left you, which our Alloyed Collective bosses guide covers.

GODEEPER: Conduit Canyon and Rallypoint Delta only show up on some runs, so it helps to know which stage slot each one fills. Risk of Rain 2 Stages Guide →

Why an earlier shrine may not count

The wiki's note on Acrid: Miracle is clear: "It can be used at any point in the run before the win." Players in the first two weeks didn't all see that.

  • eatham44 used the Rallypoint Delta shrine on stage 14, beat Mithrix on stage 16 and escaped the moon. Back in the lobby, "the Miracle achievement and the ability are still locked".
  • BradyntheNerd used Conduit Canyon's shrine and took the Solus Heart ending, which the wiki counts as beating the game. No unlock.
  • Dragontamern8g1 on Xbox, in local co-op, tried Rallypoint Delta and then Conduit Canyon, and got a black screen in the lobby both times. His update: the Commencement shrine "(after beating Mithrix of course)" worked. He adds: "No idea if it's a Co-Op bug".

On the other side, Piss_Cakehole says the Conduit Canyon route worked for him. So it isn't a rule that only the moon counts. Every other success we found used the moon, though, and the only patch since launch, the October 14 hotfix, doesn't mention Acrid or the shrine. We can't tell from the outside whether the stage, the ending or co-op is the trigger, so we'd use the moon shrine and avoid finding out.

Calvinbmoore shows the moon shrine works before the fight too. His first chance at a shrine was Commencement, he "Got just about the worst roll possible", and asked whether he'd used it before Mithrix, he replied: "Yep lol. Didn't even occur to me to use it after." He still won.

The no-risk version: Artifact of Command

If you've unlocked Artifact of Command ("Choose your items"), you can make sequencing do nothing at all. Take one item type per tier and the shrine has only one option in each, so every tier comes out the same as it went in.

Such_Ad_9333 did exactly that: "i just played on drizzle with command", taking only Energy Drinks and Hopoo Feathers, and "used the shrine on the moon". Illustrious_Sea5080 built one item per tier and sequenced before the fight: "the shrine can only roll the items to what you already have so I just grabbed it before Mithrix". The same player said in another thread: "I just got it by using the shrine on the moon rather than other shrines. Maybe other shrines don't count atm."

Our items and artifacts guide covers what Command does and how artifacts are unlocked if you don't have it yet. Drizzle plus Command is the lowest-effort way to clear this challenge, since every item in the run is your choice.

Is Cloying Breath worth unlocking?

Cloying Breath is a 12-second cooldown Special that leaves a cloud in place for 6.5 seconds. Each enemy inside takes up to 4 hits a second at 60% each, the in-game "240% damage per second", which works out to about 1560% if something stays in it the whole time. Every hit applies Poison, or Blight if you run the Blight passive. Epidemic, the default, has a 10-second cooldown and bounces between enemies up to 20 times.

The split is what you'd guess from those numbers. The cloud is better on one big target that stands still, such as a Teleporter boss. Epidemic is better on spread-out groups and anything that flies. Such_Ad_9333 prefers the new one: "it's better single target damage and it makes blight usable". Guphord isn't sold: "the new ability is made specifically for blight acrid but i don't think it's strong enough to make blight good sadly". The wiki still calls Poison "almost always the better pick, especially when looping", and Cloying Breath applies Poison just as well.

For where Acrid sits against the full roster, see our Risk of Rain 2 survivors guide.

Using the Shrine of Order in a normal run

Outside this challenge, the Risk of Rain 2 Shrine of Order is worth a coin in three cases:

  • Command runs, where you've picked one item type per tier and it's free.
  • A boss tier full of pearls, where the roll can turn every Pearl into an Irradiant Pearl. It can go the other way too, so only try it when you'd be happy with either.
  • A lost run, where a random stack of one strong white beats eight weak ones and there's nothing to lose.

The worst time is a mixed white tier you've been building for six stages. Check which items are worth stacking before you pay, and watch for scrap in your inventory, since a tier can roll into it.

Common mistakes

  • Sequencing on stage 3 or 4 "to get it over with": early reports say it may not count, and you lose your build for nothing.
  • Going to the shrine before charging the ship: the 3 minutes include the 1-minute holdout, so leaving the charge until last cuts your margin.
  • Letting a co-op friend use it: the Acrid player completing the challenge has to sequence. If two of you want it, both play Acrid. Dragontamern8g1 ran "double Acrid in Co-Op", hit the Commencement shrine and "got the unlock", but doesn't say whether both of them used it, and we found no source that does. Our co-op guide covers the rest of lobby setup.
  • Trying it without movement items: the floating rocks are hard to reach on foot.

Our take

Treat Acrid: Miracle as an escape-sequence errand, not a build challenge. Get to the moon with a coin, kill Mithrix the way you normally would, and spend the shrine when the run is already won. If movement is your weak point, do it on Drizzle with Command and one item per tier. Cloying Breath is worth having for Teleporter bosses, but Epidemic stays our default.

How we checked this

We haven't played this challenge ourselves, so none of this is first-hand advice. On October 23, 2026 we read the Risk of Rain 2 wiki's Shrine of Order, Commencement, Conduit Canyon, Acrid, Acrid: Miracle, Endings and Lunar Coins pages, copied the challenge text from Steam's achievement list, and pulled the 0.5% figure from Steam's global achievement stats for Risk of Rain 2. The player reports come from five r/riskofrain threads posted between October 9 and October 21. The "one item per tier changes nothing" point is our own reading of the wiki's per-type odds.

We stepped through the official update video for the screenshots: Acrid's Loadout with the new Special selected runs from about 2:17 to 2:19, and the Challenge screens follow from about 2:19 (the page listing Death Do Us Part through Her Concepts is on screen at 2:20).
