Risk of Rain 2 Acolyte Build: Best Items and Loadout

Acolyte doesn't heal like anyone else on the roster, which turns half the item tier list upside down.

VerdictRun N'kuhana's Favor, Soul Jar and Javelin, then grab Leeching Seed, attack speed and Noxious Thorn. Skip Transcendence: it starves her passive.

The best Risk of Rain 2 Acolyte build runs N'kuhana's Favor as the passive, Soul Jar and Javelin in the middle slots, and buys healing items as if they were damage items. That last part is the whole trick. On Favor, healing never refills her health bar: every heal becomes a stack of attack speed instead. Leeching Seed, a modest green on most survivors, is one of the first items we'd take on her.

She's also the hardest of the two Hallowed Concepts survivors to get. Enforcer is ready the moment you own the DLC; Acolyte has to be earned, so the unlock comes first.

How to unlock Acolyte before you build her

The challenge is called A Broken Ritual. Reach the Soulbound Threshold hidden realm, beat both phases of the Anima Harvester, then revive the fallen Acolyte who appears where it fell by handing her one permanent item tagged Healing or Food.

Getting in is the hard bit. The usual door is a Shrine of Descent next to a stage's Teleporter, which only shows up if no major catastrophe has happened yet in the run and the team holds enough N'tormat Pages. Inside, a ritual timer starts at 210 seconds and each of the four arena challenges adds 65. If it hits zero, everyone dies, and Dio's Best Friend doesn't save you.

Bring a spare healing item. The accepted list is wider than the Medkit everyone mentions: Energy Drink, Mocha, Topaz Brooch and Bison Steak all count, as do Leeching Seed and Aegis. Temporary and Ethereal copies don't. The unlock applies to everyone in the lobby who owns Hallowed Concepts, so one revive in co-op covers the whole group. Our Soulbound Threshold notes in the stages guide cover how to reach the realm.

Favor over Grace. Grace sends all healing into a pool of recoverable health and pays you one point of attack speed for each percent of max health sitting in that pool, but the pool drains by a percent of max health every second. Favor drops the pool: each heal grants a stack, plus one and a half stacks per 1% of base health healed, and each stack expires on its own after 6 to 12 seconds. Gains shrink past 50 stacks, so the ceiling is soft. On r/riskofrain, Trisce put it plainly: "Her alt passive IMO is just outright far better than the default." We'd still start a brand-new player on Grace, because it forgives a bad trade.

Soul Jar over Bola Throw. The jar haunts everything in a 12 m blast for 400% damage over eight seconds, and haunted enemies release seeking wights when they die. Haunt can't kill on its own, which is the catch. Bola Throw hits up to five enemies, stuns them and pulls out their souls for 12 seconds; damage dealt to a soul also lands on its owner. Take Bola when the run is mostly bosses.

Javelin over Blade Sling. Blade Sling's glaive deals about 200% per second for up to eight seconds, so it has to stay out a long time to match the Javelin's two 400% hits. lolidoli12 ran the same numbers in the thread and landed on Javelin against anything large or grounded. Both let you dash back to the weapon.

Best items for Acolyte, ranked

These are calls for an ordinary run on Favor, ranked by how much they do for her kit specifically. General item strength lives in our Risk of Rain 2 item tier list.

Leeching Seed heals 1 health per hit (more per stack), scaled by the hit's proc coefficient. Tiny on anyone else. On Favor, the stack count matters more than the amount, and Blade Slice hits a lot. Cata_1029, who posted an early Acolyte item tier list, called it "one of her strongest, especially with favor as the passive" and said the same logic applies to Sanguine Chalice's bleed ticks.

Attack speed has a ceiling that's easy to miss. A quickstrike hits three times at base attack speed for 200% per hit, and the hit count is three times your attack speed, rounded, to a maximum of nine. The swing itself doesn't get faster. So attack speed multiplies quickstrike damage until you're at three times base; past that, the extra only speeds up slashes and the recharge on quickstrike charges and Sacrifice, both of which are Rapid.

Noxious Thorn is why Soul Jar works. On a kill it hands a third of every debuff stack, Haunt included, to another enemy within 20 m. Add any bleed or Gasoline and a packed Teleporter wave cooks itself. mampatrick's verdict: "The jar feels crazy with a bit of bleed and noxious thorns."

Brilliant Behemoth adds a 60% total-damage explosion to every attack, sized by the hit's proc coefficient, and Sacrifice hits at a full 1.0, so it gets the whole blast. Ok-Sport-3663 rated it "S++ tier" because every enemy caught in the Sacrifice explosion feeds Conviction. We haven't seen that confirmed on the wiki, so treat the Conviction part as a player report.

Aegis turns healing received at full health into barrier. Players running Favor report constant barrier uptime with it, and Aryele222 put it simply: "aegis is incredible on acolyte."

Transcendence is the trap. Favor's attack speed still works when your health is all shield, but percentage healing like Bustling Fungus drops to about 1 per tick, so the heals that feed her passives dry up.

Sacrifice, Convictions and which Litany to take

Sacrifice is a 10-second cooldown that lifts most non-boss targets into the air, then hits for 1,000% damage. Landing it gives two Convictions and a kill gives one more. At seven, Sacrifice turns into her Litany.

Dark Summons transforms her into the Anima Harvester for nine seconds: 400 base health, 100 armor, and health that can't drop below 1. Damage dealt in that form sends back healing orbs worth roughly 38.5% of it. Anima Echo keeps her normal form and repeats every slash and quickstrike, and you can keep casting Sacrifice during it, which is why Alien Head matters. MapleApple00 thinks the transformation wins on bosses "because it can actually get in close and deals way more damage with its abilities." We agree for Mithrix; Echo is the greedier pick once cooldown items pile up.

The reveal itself is short. The Acolyte name card lands at 0:10, Sacrifice is labelled at 0:15, Bola Throw at 0:21 and Blade Sling at 0:28, before the video hands over to Enforcer:

Mistakes that sink Acolyte runs

  • Spending every quickstrike charge on damage. There are three, and they recharge one at a time. Keep one for dodging. Bosses are where she struggles: Entire_Restaurant_29 thinks "the character falls apart on the final boss," with no safe way to deal damage "without risking being one shot to a hammer." The Mithrix guide covers the hammer tells.
  • Scrapping healing whites. Medkit, Topaz Brooch and Bison Steak look dead on a character whose health bar ignores heals. On Favor, regeneration turns into permanent stacks of attack speed, and you need one healing item for the unlock anyway.
  • Treating Haunt as a finisher. Haunt and the wights can't kill. Soul Jar sets up a fight; quickstrikes end it.
  • Skipping the Soulbound Threshold reward. The improved Hallowed Shrine after the Harvester turns the three Hexes each player gets during the fight into one Medium pick, usually an Uncommon, and one near-certain Hallowed item. The interactables guide lists the other Hallowed Concepts shrines, and the items and artifacts guide explains the rarity colors.

For the run around her, the Risk of Rain 2 complete guide links every survivor, stage and boss page on the site, and the Eclipse guide covers Eclipse 5's healing cut, worth reading before you take a heal-powered survivor up the ladder.

How we checked this

Skill and item numbers come from the community wiki (riskofrain2.wiki.gg) pages for Acolyte, A Broken Ritual, Soulbound Threshold and each item, read on October 20, 2026, and Gearbox's launch notes on Steam. We watched the official survivor reveal and noted the timestamps above. Player opinions come from two r/riskofrain threads posted after launch. We didn't play the runs ourselves; the build is our call from those numbers.
