Far Far West Halloween Event: Rewards, Rituals, End Date

The event ends November 12 and its cosmetics stay yours. Disturbance is the change that will outlive it.

VerdictDo the rituals before November 12 and spend every candle: leftovers turn into Souls at 2 each, and missed cosmetics cost 4 times as much Gold later.

The Far Far West Halloween event runs from October 22 to November 12 and arrived with Fear Fear West, the v0.3.0.0 update Evil Raptor released on October 22. You collect three event resources in normal contracts, burn them in a lobby ritual for Haunted Candles, and spend the candles on 10 cosmetics. The catch: leftover resources vanish when it ends, and anything you skip costs four times the usual Gold afterwards.

The update also adds a Jetpack, a new map called Redwood, a Disturbance system that speeds enemies up as a run goes on, opt-in modifiers and reworked bosses. A hotfix, version 0.3.0.7, followed on October 23 with more than 20 bug fixes. The game is 20% off on Steam for two weeks from launch day: $15.99 instead of $19.99 when we checked on October 24.

Step-by-step: how the Halloween event works

Every step below comes from the v0.3.0.0 patch notes. The notes do not say how many resources one ritual takes or how many candles each cosmetic costs.

1. Pick a Halloween contract: The event runs on every map. The mission selection screen marks which contracts have Halloween objectives, and each of those missions carries up to 2 of the 3 event resources.

2. Collect Feathers: Find a crow statue and shoot the crow that flies off it.

3. Collect Pumpkins: Kill the Halloween Boss, a new boss with its own attack patterns.

4. Collect Skulls: Find a haunted cemetery and destroy the flying skulls.

5. Perform the ritual: Back in the lobby, go to the cauldron behind the train and spend your resources. Each ritual pays out Haunted Candles, the event currency.

6. Spend the candles before November 12: When the event ends, Feathers, Pumpkins and Skulls are deleted and every Haunted Candle becomes 2 Souls.

What the Haunted Candles buy

TypeRewards
Character skinsSawbones, Scarecrow, Pumpkin Jack
Mount skinGhost
TitlesDies First, Scarecrow, Bounty Haunter, Legend of the Fear Fear West
EmotesSpooked, Ritual

That is 10 items. You keep everything you unlock. Evil Raptor's October 15 announcement framed the event as "no FOMO": the rest go on sale for Gold after November 12, at 4 times the price of a cosmetic in the same category. We'd start with the three character skins, because they are the only rewards that change your cowboy's look in every run.

One community favorite already: on the launch thread, a player quoted the title list and replied "'Dies First' Finally, a title just for me!" (r/FarFarWest).

What else Fear Fear West changed

Disturbance. Actions in a mission raise a Disturbance Level, and enemies get buffed at set thresholds for the rest of that mission. Evil Raptor calls the scaling "modest" and says harder difficulties for players who want them will come later.

ActionDisturbance
Activate a Lighthouse, finish a quest, start an Anvil, kill a miniboss, activate an Easy modifier+5% each
Activate a Classic modifier, finish the main objective+10% each
Complete a side objective, trigger a Storm Trap+15% each
Kill the boss+30%

At 35% enemies move 5% faster, at 70% 15% faster, and at 100% they move 30% faster, the spawner boss gains 10% health, and the Ragestorm modifier starts calling down lightning.

Modifiers and the Dealmaker. Modifiers are now opt-in. Complete a Lighthouse to reveal up to two Dealmakers, each offering modifiers that pay XP and Uranium by difficulty. That XP lands on your hero, main weapon and secondary weapon separately, so the weapon leveling guide gets a new fast lane. Dealmakers pay less after each Disturbance threshold and vanish once the main objective is done, so visit them early. The list holds 15 Easy modifiers, 14 Classic ones and one Good one, Jackpot, which doubles the Joker drop chance. On Normal, an offer is 80% Easy and 20% Classic; on Nightmare it's 10% and 90%.

Joker's Choice. Picking up a Joker is now instant and opens a choice between 2 Jokers of the same rarity. Evil Raptor's reason is that the pool keeps growing, so a random Joker that fits your build kept getting less likely. Our Jokers tier list ranks the cards you will now be choosing between.

Jetpack. A new secondary weapon. You fly, then right-click to dive and release a damaging burst on nearby enemies. Its three Unique Jokers are Trail Pack (elemental puddles), Crash Pack (double fuel, half the flight time) and Hover Pack (a hover boost instead of the dive).

Redwood and new objectives. Redwood is a new forest map with a strange cauldron in it. Lady Granny gets a Woodlands questline, Giant Buzzsaw joins the main objective rotation, and there is a horse race in the fields behind the cemetery. Our maps guide covers the regions that existed before.

Bosses. The Cryptic Saloon, Cryptic Vulture and Cryptic Necromancer were reworked with new attacks and extra ones on Very Hard and Nightmare. The Cryptic Train was not, and Evil Raptor says it gets the same treatment later. The boss guide has the older patterns.

Balance. Revolver, Bow, Banjo, Boomerang, Sheriff Stars and Healing Area were all buffed (numbers in our best weapons guide). Thick Skin can now be held only once instead of twice, a nerf aimed at Frost shield builds, which hits the Frost spells setup most. Ultradraw's explosion drops from 35 to 20 damage, but its slot cost falls from 7 to 4.

Connection and controls. Matchmaking moved from Steam sessions to Epic Online Services after Evil Raptor traced disconnects to the Steam plugin, and a client who drops now keeps their Jokers and spent Uranium on reconnect. Gamepad menus snap to buttons and controller buttons can be rebound. The patch lists more than 50 fixes, and the Gamba Machine now rolls faster on repeat pulls and lets you sell a Joker you just won.

Evil Raptor also cut the CPU load of enemies, which it says helps the host most in crowded high-difficulty missions. "now i may no longer drop from 150 to 50 fps in big fights when hosting nightmare with 4 player finally," one player wrote on the launch thread (r/FarFarWest).

Fixes: hotfix 0.3.0.7

The hotfix went up on October 23, the day after the update, fixing "20+ bugs." If something looked broken on day one, check this list before reporting it:

  • a crash on launch;
  • Wandering Trader, Refiner and Copy Press screens staying stuck for the rest of a game;
  • UI turning blurry on some setups since the update;
  • Lady Granny walking through a player's portal during her quest, which could let players skip it;
  • the Redwood payload getting stuck;
  • the Execute Joker stopping a crow statue's last Feather from dropping.

That blur fix answers a launch-day complaint: "Update made in-game text fuzzy," one player posted on October 22 (r/FarFarWest). The hotfix post also says the Far Far West soundtrack by Telurik is out on "a whole bunch of platforms," with a Steam release coming soon.

Our take

The event is the easy part of this update. Do it early: the steps are simple and the timer is real. Disturbance and the Dealmaker change how a run paces, since every Lighthouse and side objective now makes enemies a little faster. Steam counted 5,474 people in game at 04:34 UTC on October 24. Will the Cryptic Train rework land before the event closes? Evil Raptor hasn't said. For the rest of the game, start with our complete guide and the earlier Frostburn update.

How we checked this

On October 24, 2026 we read the v0.3.0.0 post, the 0.3.0.7 hotfix and the October 15 event announcement through Steam's news feed for app 3124540, checked the US price through Steam's appdetails API and the concurrent player count through Steam's player-count API at 04:34 UTC. We watched the 1:08 "Fear Fear West - Halloween Update OUT NOW!" trailer on Fireshine Games' YouTube channel: at 0:03 a burning effigy with a jack-o'-lantern head towers over the desert, at 0:33 a cauldron bubbles yellow-green over smashed planks, at 0:43 a giant pumpkin-headed figure raises its arms behind purple flames, and the end card at 1:03 reads "OUT NOW!" Player quotes come from the r/FarFarWest launch thread. We have not played the update.
