This Far Far West maps guide exists because the numbers floating around don't agree. Beginner guides and community wikis have quoted different totals for how many maps this game actually has, and none of the popular explanations line up on how the later ones unlock. Here's the confirmed roster: seven combat regions plus the Saloon hub, and every unlock condition traced back to the specific NPC and questline that triggers it.

TL;DR: Far Far West has 7 combat regions plus the Saloon hub. Far West, Desert, and Canyon are open from the start. Woodlands unlocks through Willy Billy's questline on Far West, Area 41 through Dr. Spark-Twist's questline on Desert, Far Far North by recovering three trainwreck black boxes across Far West, Canyon, and Area 41, and Jungle through Trackman's three-part questline on Far Far North. None of it unlocks through simple exploration or leveling up.

How many maps are in Far Far West? (quick answer)

Far Far West has 7 named combat regions: Far West, Desert, Canyon, Woodlands, Area 41, Far Far North, and Jungle. The Saloon is an eighth location, but it's the non-combat hub town where you manage loadouts between runs, not a mission map. Three regions are open immediately; the other four require completing a specific NPC's questline.

Key takeaways

  • 7 regions + the Saloon hub: Far West, Desert, Canyon (starting), Woodlands, Area 41, Far Far North, Jungle (unlockable), plus the non-combat Saloon.
  • Every unlock is questline-gated, tied to a named NPC: Willy Billy for Woodlands, Dr. Spark-Twist for Area 41, Trackman for Jungle.
  • Far Far North is the odd one out: it unlocks by recovering trainwreck black boxes on three separate maps, not a single NPC's questline.
  • Otto on Canyon is a red herring: his questline rewards a mount skin, not a region unlock, despite showing up in some searches alongside the real unlock NPCs.
  • No patch has changed the region count since Early Access launched April 28, 2026; a June 18 hotfix mentioned GPU optimization on the Woodlands map specifically, confirming it as already-live content, not new.

Overview: Far Far West's 7 regions and the Saloon hub

Far Far West splits its world into named regions you select from a map screen rather than one continuous open world. Each region hosts its own bounty contracts, environmental hazards, and a distinct visual identity: Far West is described in-game as frontier ruins, Desert is Marauder territory dotted with windmills and cacti, Canyon is rocky terrain cut through by old minecart tracks, Woodlands is a perpetually rainy stretch that's genuinely harder to navigate than the open regions, Area 41 is full of antenna fields and unexplained green liquid, Far Far North is a frozen expanse of ancient shipwrecks, and Jungle closes things out with vine-choked temple ruins.

Only three of those seven are available the moment you start: Far West, Desert, and Canyon. The remaining four sit behind progression gates, and this is where most confusion starts, because the exact trigger for each one isn't explained anywhere in the tutorial. For the full rundown of every other system in the current build, weapons through spell schools, see the Far Far West complete guide.

Step-by-Step: how to unlock every region

The core of this Far Far West maps guide is the exact unlock chain for each of the four locked regions, confirmed against the game's own wiki and cross-checked with multiple independent guides.

1. Unlock Woodlands: talk to Willy Billy on Far West. He's stationed outside his cabin in the northeast corner of the map. His questline, "To the Woodlands We Go!", has three steps: gather a set of scattered tools, dig out a buried engine, then escort and protect him through a normal-difficulty encounter. Finish all three and Woodlands opens on your map select, along with a Willy Billy cosmetic skin.

2. Unlock Area 41: talk to Dr. Spark-Twist on Desert. His lab sits north on the map, built into a cliff face near a stream. His questline, "The Great Marauder Secret," has two parts: clear out Marauder camps to gather intel, then activate an antenna to intercept their communications. Both are normal-difficulty tasks. Completing them opens Area 41 and grants a Dr. Spark-Twist skin.

3. Unlock Far Far North: recover three trainwreck black boxes. This one doesn't run through a single NPC's dialogue tree. Instead, three separate maps, Far West, Canyon, and Area 41, each contain a Mysterious Train Wreck site with a black box recovery objective: talk to the Railroad Worker there, then stay inside a moving green ring until the download hits 100% before finishing the mission normally. Once all three black boxes are recovered, Far Far North appears at the top of your map list.

4. Unlock Jungle: talk to Trackman on Far Far North. He's on the front porch of the Post Office on the map's west edge, marked with a golden envelope icon. His "Papa Marquette Files" questline runs three quests: The North Mirrors (realign mirrors to locate old mailbags), Frozen Snowmen (break ice blocks off three trapped snowmen using mounted speed), and The Incomplete Logbook (the longest of the three, ending with a hidden page tucked under a bridge). All three have to be completed in the same successful extraction for the Jungle unlock to register, a detail that trips people up if they bail out mid-run assuming partial credit carries over.

One thing worth flagging clearly, since it comes up in search results alongside the real unlock chain: Otto, also found on Canyon at Otto Ranch & Co, runs a separate questline called "Horsin' Around the Far Far West" (a written exam, a riding exam, and a parkour course). Completing it rewards the Flash McEquine mount skin. It does not unlock a region. If a guide lumps Otto in with Willy Billy, Dr. Spark-Twist, and Trackman as a "region unlock NPC," that's a mistake.

Each region's contracts scale with its own enemy mix, and the later-unlocked regions introduce tougher variants than the three starting maps.

Tips for unlocking regions faster

Run Woodlands and Area 41 in parallel, not sequentially. Willy Billy is on Far West and Dr. Spark-Twist is on Desert, two different starting regions with no dependency between their questlines. There's no reason to fully finish one before starting the other; alternate contracts between the two maps and both unlocks land around the same time.

Don't half-finish the Far Far North trainwrecks across sessions and assume it's tracked per-attempt. All three black box recoveries need to actually complete (download to 100%, then a successful extraction) to count. A trainwreck objective abandoned partway through doesn't bank partial progress the way some contract objectives do.

Save the Jungle unlock for a squad, if you're playing co-op. The Papa Marquette Files' three quests all have to land in the same extraction, and The Incomplete Logbook in particular covers more travel distance than the other two. A coordinated group covering ground in parallel gets through all three in one run more reliably than a solo attempt that has to do everything serially.

Treat Far Far North and Jungle as your endgame content, not something to rush early. Both sit at the end of a genuinely multi-step unlock chain (three separate maps for Far Far North, then a three-quest line on top of that for Jungle), and the enemy density in both reflects that. Bring an upgraded loadout before attempting either unlock chain rather than going in with starting-region gear. For build and upgrade priorities once you've got full map access, see the Far Far West Strategy Guide.

Far Far West's developer, Evil Raptor, hasn't shipped a content update that changed the region count since Early Access launched on April 28, 2026. A June 18 hotfix (version 0.1.1.17) referenced "GPU Optimization (especially noticeable on Woodlands map!)" in its patch notes, confirming Woodlands was already live well before that patch, not something the patch added. A bigger one, called Frostburn, is scheduled for August 27. Evil Raptor's own announcement stopped short of listing what's actually in it: "Full details on the update will be available on launch day." Any guide claiming to know Frostburn's contents ahead of that date is guessing, not reporting. Whether it touches the region roster is an open question until then.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many maps are in Far Far West? Seven combat regions, plus the Saloon as a non-combat hub. Far West, Desert, and Canyon are available from the start. Woodlands, Area 41, Far Far North, and Jungle all unlock through specific NPC questlines.

How do you unlock Woodlands in Far Far West? Talk to Willy Billy on the Far West map and complete his three-part questline, "To the Woodlands We Go!": gather scattered tools, dig out a lost engine, then escort and protect him. Woodlands unlocks on completion.

How do you unlock Area 41 in Far Far West? Find Dr. Spark-Twist at his lab on the Desert map and finish "The Great Marauder Secret": clear Marauder camps for intel, then activate an antenna to intercept their signal. Area 41 opens after both tasks.

How do you unlock Far Far North in Far Far West? Recover the black box from the Mysterious Train Wreck quest on three separate maps: Far West, Canyon, and Area 41. Once all three are recovered, Far Far North appears on the map select screen.

How do you unlock the Jungle map in Far Far West? Speak to Trackman near the Post Office on Far Far North and complete his three-quest "Papa Marquette Files" line: The North Mirrors, Frozen Snowmen, and The Incomplete Logbook, all in one successful extraction.

Is the Saloon a playable region in Far Far West? No. The Saloon is the hub town between missions, where the Gamba Machine, Weaponsmith, and Sheriff's bounty board are located. It's not a combat map and has no unlock condition.

Does Otto's questline on Canyon unlock a new map? No, and this is a common mix-up. Otto's Canyon questline, "Horsin' Around the Far Far West," rewards a mount skin, not a region. Only Willy Billy, Dr. Spark-Twist, and Trackman gate actual map unlocks.
