CRACK Egg Game: What We Know Before the Steam Launch

Five days out, the co-op egg game has a launch date, 16 languages and a lot of buzz. It still has no price.

VerdictWishlist it if you have three friends who laugh at the same dumb things; wait for launch reviews if you need a reason to keep cracking past the first night.

The CRACK egg game is a wishlist for anyone with a regular co-op group and a soft spot for dumb premises. Rafoli's game launches on Steam on Monday, October 26, and its whole pitch is still the one from the announcement: there's a giant egg in a lab, and up to four of you are paid to break it.

What's changed since our first look in September is how much of the game around the egg Rafoli has shown. What hasn't changed is the price. As of October 15, Steam still lists none.

What's new in the CRACK egg game since the reveal

Steam now calls CRACK a "1-4 player co-op incremental adventure", and the incremental part is the news. The store screenshots show work orders on the HUD: split and peel chunks off the shell to unlock a Resource Depot, then haul buckets of fragments to open the Company Store. The store copy promises you'll "unlock hidden rooms and upgrade your tools", and adds, ominously, that "the Egg reacts to you."

The language list grew too. When we covered the reveal, Steam listed five languages; it's now sixteen, including Japanese, Korean, both Chinese scripts, Turkish and Ukrainian, with English as the only fully voiced one. The listing also shows Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud support.

What the devlogs show

Rafoli has been posting short devlogs on YouTube since September, and they're the best look at what you'll actually do between swings. Day 10 added the shop: a computer terminal with a dispenser beside it, locked behind an access card. Day 11 added a break room with two arcade cabinets that really work, Pong and Snake, which Rafoli says "only took me 14 hours of programming". A late September short added stats and Steam achievements, the first of which you get for hitting the egg once. The newest, from October 13, is titled "In my game, you can catch explosives."

That's a lot of office around one egg, and it's the right call. A short in late September frames you as "a scientist forced to crack open the egg" and teases hidden doors, which suggests the lab is where the mystery lives.

What the CRACK egg game trailer adds

We stepped through the announcement trailer frame by frame. After a cheerful "Let's get cracking" at 0:03, a wall clock cycles through WORK, BREAK and SLEEP from 0:16, which is the joke and the structure in one shot. The HATCH CORP shop shows up at 0:35 selling a pickaxe called the MADDOCK MK II, the pickaxe chips its first shell at 0:42, a worker waves dynamite at 0:55, and by 0:58 there are slot machines. At 1:01 the hall fills with green gas.

The gas comes with a sign, and the sign is the best line in the screenshots: "PERSONNEL REMAINING ON THE FLOOR WILL BE PENALIZED." Hatch Corp is not a nice employer, and the game seems to know it.

How much buzz there is

Rafoli told us by email that CRACK passed 80K wishlists in its first three weeks. That's the developer's own figure, and Steam doesn't publish wishlist counts, so take it as a claim. The public numbers point the same way, though: the trailer is past 150,000 views, and the achievements devlog alone pulled close to 40,000. Boing Boing called it "shaping up to be the next friendslop obsession du jour".

The trailer comments are split between people who are in and people who've seen this before. "Cant wait to start cracking with my homies," wrote one viewer. Another loved the art direction: "I adore the visual gag of the eggheads heads looking like eggs." The sharpest one was skeptical: "Seems like one of those games streamers will pick for an hour, hype it up, and then forget in a week," another wrote.

What we still don't know

Price is the big one. A co-op game like this lives or dies on whether four friends will each buy a copy on a whim, and right now nobody can tell you what that costs. We also haven't seen how long the egg lasts or what's inside it, and Rafoli seems determined to keep it that way. Boing Boing thought it looked "almost meditative", one tap of shell at a time. That's lovely for an evening; the question is whether the upgrades keep it fresh for a second one.

Our take

Wishlist it now. CRACK looks like the sort of game that shines with a full squad on a Friday night, in the same lane as Gamble With Your Friends, and the devlogs show new rooms and systems arriving every few days. Don't commit until the price lands and the first Steam reviews tell you whether people keep going after the first crack. If you want something to play with friends this week instead, our best co-op games for September has plenty already out.

How we checked this

On October 15, 2026 we read the CRACK Steam listing and its screenshots, watched every Rafoli devlog short since September with captions on, stepped through the announcement trailer (timestamps above), and read the trailer's YouTube comments and Boing Boing's coverage. The wishlist figure comes from Rafoli's email to us. We haven't played CRACK.
