ATMOSFAR Early Access: What's In on October 29, What Waits

Two of three regions, three Wasps and the full Cloud Cruiser on day one. The story's ending and the Scout Wasp come later.

VerdictBuy at launch if you want a co-op flying game to grow with; wait for the first big update if your graphics card sits below the RTX 2070 minimum.

ATMOSFAR Early Access opens on Thursday, October 29, on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the Steam page now spells out what that first build holds: two of the game's three regions, three Wasps, the Cloud Cruiser airship and online co-op for up to four players. What it doesn't hold is the story's ending. And as of October 24, there's still no price.

Apog Labs, the Malmö studio behind Airport CEO, is making it, and Shueisha Games is publishing. The developer says the game will stay in Early Access for "at least 9 months", and that the price goes up a little before the full release.

What's in ATMOSFAR Early Access on day one

The Early Access section of the Steam page is the clearest statement Apog Labs has made about the launch build. At release you get "two distinct regions of floating islands with multiple biomes", plus "three Wasps and a fully-fledged Cloud Cruiser". Wasps are the small flying craft you build up from scavenged scrap; the Cloud Cruiser is the big one, a mobile base you build on and pilot from its helm.

The Steam store copy names the three Wasps as the Utility Wasp, which deploys a portable camp, the Hauler Wasp, which airlifts heavy scrap, and the Striker Wasp, which stuns enemies. Shueisha's October 19 press release calls the third one the Fighter Wasp and pitches it on speed instead. Same slot, two names; expect the launch build to settle it.

Two promises matter for anyone thinking about starting early. The game "supports both single and multiplayer", and Apog Labs says it aims "to persist your saves across the entire Early Access period". That's an aim, not a guarantee, so treat it as one.

What waits for later updates

The same section lists what's coming "across several major Early Access updates": "more islands across the third and final region, The Rime", a fourth craft called the Scout Wasp, "significantly expanded base building for the Cloud Cruiser" and "an ending to the story of ATMOSFAR". So the narrative is unfinished at launch. If you play survival games for the mystery rather than the building, that's the line to weigh.

The official website still describes four Wasp classes, including the Scout, and uses other names for two of them (Cargo, Fighter). The Steam FAQ is the more specific statement, and it says the Scout comes later.

Price, platforms and PC requirements

There's no price on Steam yet, and neither Apog Labs' posts nor Shueisha's press release names one. What the developer's FAQ does say is that "there will be a slight price increase before the game releases into its full version."

Consoles aren't announced. Under "current targeted platforms", the official site shows PC, Steam and the Epic Games Store logos only. "Really hope this gets a PS5 port," one commenter wrote under the release date trailer. For now, that's a hope.

Check your graphics card before you buy. The minimum spec asks for an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, an Intel Core i5-7500 or Ryzen 5 1500X, 8 GB of RAM and 25 GB of storage on 64-bit Windows 10. The recommended tier jumps to an RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT, 16 GB of RAM and 50 GB on Windows 11. Both tiers note that multiplayer needs an internet connection.

How we got here

ATMOSFAR was meant to launch on May 20. On May 13 the studio pushed it back, writing that the game "today is fully playable, it's not how we'd like you to experience it". The Steam Next Fest demo had done well before that: Apog Labs says it reached "over 70K individual players" and was among the 50 most played demos of the event. The demo came down from Steam on April 30, so there's nothing to try before launch.

Wishlists kept climbing through the delay. The studio announced 200,000 in March and 300,000 on October 19. "We can't wait for players to finally jump into their Wasps and explore Tycos on October 29th," Olof Kindblad, Head of Studio at Apog Labs, said in the press release.

What the release date trailer shows

We stepped through the 78-second "Enter Tycos" trailer. It opens at 0:02 on a vagabond whose backpack carries two glowing gauges, facing a tower on a grassy island. At 0:16 a red Wasp skims off the grass, and from 0:18 to 0:26 it threads between floating rocks and waterfalls. A winged creature glides past at 0:30, and two Wasps race low through a red-rock canyon at 0:32. At 0:38 a much larger airship with long booms on its hull fills the frame, which we take to be the Cloud Cruiser, and at 0:46 a vagabond walks a hangar corridor. The end card at 1:04 reads "Flying into Early Access 29 October 2026" over the Steam and Epic logos.

It's mostly flight, which fits: flying is what people who played the demo remember. "The flight mechanics in the demo were enough to get me to play a bunch of hours when it comes out," one viewer wrote. On r/Games, a player who tried the demo was cooler on it: "The demo was kinda jank and iirc the more advanced airships weren't part of it at all," they wrote. Apog Labs has confirmed that last part: the Cloud Cruiser was left out of the demo because you reach it later in the game. Another r/Games commenter summed up the trailer as "fairly standard Survival stuff, but the setting and style are doing a lot of legwork here."

Our take

The scope is honest, and that's worth something. Two regions, three Wasps and the full airship is a real game to start in, and a nine-month plan with saves meant to carry over makes buying early an easier call. The missing ending is the cost. If you want a co-op crew project for the winter, like the picks in our best co-op games roundup, October 29 is a fine day to start. If you want a finished story, or your card sits below the RTX 2070 line, wait for the first big update and the first wave of Steam reviews.

It's a busy week for Early Access. Emberville enters it two days earlier, on October 27 (our Emberville guide tracks it), and if building is what keeps you playing, our base-building and colony sim picks are all out now.

How we checked this

On October 24, 2026 we read the ATMOSFAR Steam listing, including its Early Access FAQ, system requirements and screenshots, and the Steam announcements Apog Labs posted between March and October. We read the official ATMOSFAR website and Shueisha Games' October 19 press release on Games Press, stepped through the "Enter Tycos" release date trailer (timestamps above), and read the trailer's YouTube comments and the r/Games thread about it. We haven't played ATMOSFAR or its demo.
