Paralives First Major Update Slips Past 2026: What's In It

Relationships, the economy and build-breaking bugs come first. Pets, seasons and cars wait for a later update.

VerdictGood news if you already play Paralives for its stories; no reason to keep waiting if pets, seasons or cars are what you're holding out for.

The Paralives first major update won't arrive by the end of 2026. In a Steam post on October 23, Paralives Studio wrote that it "originally announced that this first major update would be released for the end of 2026 but we need a little more time to do all this well." It gave no new date.

The same post is the first detailed list of what the update holds, and it's a fundamentals pass: deeper relationships, a tighter economy, new skills and jobs, fixes for build-breaking bugs and wider body sliders in the Paramaker. Weather, seasons, gardening, pets and cars aren't in it. The studio files those under "future major updates".

What's in the first major update

The studio sorts the plan into four groups. The first, "Buffing Up the Basics", covers the Live Mode systems already in the game.

Relationships top the list. Raising the level of a relationship label, "such as friend, lover or enemy", will "unlock more things", Townies will sometimes prompt you through Together Cards and let you pick a reaction, and new cards make it easier "to flirt, be mean, joke, get to know Parafolks". Parafolks also get more interactions tied to emotions, talking animations during group activities like eating or watching TV, and more things they choose to do on their own "according to their personality". The Jester vibe trait is being reworked to fit "someone who is humorous rather than someone who is a bit erratic".

The economy section is the most specific part of the plan. The studio says "money is a bit too easy to come by" and plans to adjust starting money, starting lots, item prices and salary progression. Pricier furniture will also work better: higher-value objects will be "more efficient when Paras use them". Community Center bundles, townie requests and life goals all get better rewards, and there will be more life goals.

On top of that, Live Mode gets new content: two new skills with their own interactions, more Together Cards, new unlockables tied to relationship labels, new Story Cards with more options each night, and "a few more jobs in a new field of work" the team hasn't named yet.

Builders get fixes first. The studio lists "floor and objects disappearing and corrupted lots that won't load anymore" among the bugs it's working on, plus new furniture and items. Value will cut both ways in Build Mode: cheaper furniture will be less efficient, and better objects will "break less often and replenish needs faster".

The Paramaker, the character editor, gets a wider range on the fat and muscle sliders and new hairstyles and clothes. Baggy clothes are the example the studio gives, and it says work on them has started.

The post closes with a caveat: "This current list is not final, it's possible that some things may be pushed back while others may be added in."

How the end-of-2026 date slipped

The date came from Patch 0.1.8 on August 24. Those patch notes said patches would be "spaced out a bit more than usual" while the team worked toward "the end of year free major update". Patch 0.1.9 on October 8 moved the game to Unity 6 and was, in the studio's words, "mostly bug fixes and minor additions". Hotfix 0.1.9b followed on October 16.

The October 23 post explains where the time went. Since Early Access opened on May 25, the team has shipped eight patches and eight hotfixes, upgraded to Unity 6, and hired a Senior Programmer, a Senior Game Designer and more QA help. It also says it read through "hundreds of thousands of feedback reports, emails, messages, and comments" to pick the update's priorities.

The post is the first in a new format meant to deliver "frequent development updates", so more detail should follow before the update ships.

What players are saying

Under Iron Seagull's video on the announcement, the reaction splits along familiar lines. "I think the team is managing its priorities very well to avoid the game from becoming even buggy," one viewer wrote. Another was less sold: it "feels like an quality of life update with few new features, so seems to be strange call that a major update," they wrote.

A third viewer noticed what's missing: "Hmm pools are again not mentioned". Pools and swimming are still on the Steam page's list of things "To be added during the Early Access phase", alongside weather and seasons, dogs, cats and horses, cars and bikes, and a family tree. None of them has a date.

Our take

We'd rather have this order than a pets update on top of a shaky sim. When money comes too easily, a job stops feeling like progress, and the developers say as much. The catch is for people still on the fence: if seasons, pets or cars are why you'd buy Paralives, this update doesn't change the answer, so buy for build mode or not at all; our Paralives Early Access buying guide has the price and sale history. If you play for stories, the relationship and Together Card work is the part to watch for; our Paralives social activities guide covers how those cards work today. Builders should check what's still missing in our house building guide, and the Paralives complete guide tracks the rest.

How we checked this

On October 24, 2026 we read Paralives Studio's "Development Update - October 2026" post on Steam, the Patch 0.1.8 and 0.1.9 notes and the Hotfix 0.1.9b post, and the Steam store page with its Early Access FAQ. We compared our reading with coverage from SimsCommunity and Simulation Daily, and read the YouTube comments under Iron Seagull's video about the announcement. We haven't played anything from the update; the studio hasn't released any of it.
