MINTROCKET · MINTROCKET

How many chapters in Dave the Diver? Seven, plus a short prologue at the start and an epilogue at the end. That matters once the story keeps opening new areas long after you expected the credits. The list below names each one in order, using the chapter titles and main missions recorded on the community-run Dave the Diver wiki on Fandom.

TL;DR: Dave the Diver has 7 chapters: Traces of the Sea People, Into the Deep, A Request from the Sea People, Abandoned Cave, Melting Glacier, Glacier Zone and Broken Control Room. A Prologue (A Sushi Bar By The Blue Hole) comes first and an Epilogue (Friends) closes the story. The main story takes about 25 hours on HowLongToBeat, and Steam shows 25.3% of players have watched the credits. The In the Jungle DLC adds 7 more chapters of its own.

How many chapters in Dave the Diver? (quick answer)

Dave the Diver has seven numbered chapters. The story starts with a tutorial-length Prologue and ends with an Epilogue, so you may see guides count eight or nine parts, but the game numbers only seven. The paid In the Jungle content pack runs a separate seven-chapter story on top of that.

Guides disagree on the total because some count the prologue as a chapter. The Prologue, A Sushi Bar By The Blue Hole, has three main missions on the wiki and mostly teaches the day and night loop: dive in the Blue Hole by day, serve sushi at Bancho Sushi by night. The Epilogue, Friends, is named but, in the wiki's words, "doesn't have any missions associated with it. This just marks the end of the main storyline." So the playable story is the prologue plus seven chapters.

Here is MINTROCKET's official launch trailer for the base game:

Key takeaways

  • 7 numbered chapters, plus the Prologue (A Sushi Bar By The Blue Hole) and the Epilogue (Friends)
  • Chapters 5 and 6 are the longest by main mission count on the wiki: 10 missions in Melting Glacier and 8 in Glacier Zone
  • The Request Board unlocks in Chapter 3 and FishMon's weekend fish start the Saturday after you reach Chapter 3
  • Main story is about 25 hours on HowLongToBeat; a completionist run is about 52 hours
  • In the Jungle is a separate 7-chapter story; its walkthrough is in our Dave the Diver In the Jungle walkthrough

How many chapters in Dave the Diver: the full list in order

Here is the full chapter list with the main missions the Dave the Diver wiki's Missions page files under each one. Mission counts are a quick way to see which chapters are short bridges and which ones are long stretches.

A low main mission count does not mean there is little to do. Chapter 3 has only two main missions, but the wiki files twelve side missions under it and the Request Board opens there too.

This section sticks to the mission names the wiki lists, so it stays light on plot. If you want spoiler-free pacing, read only the chapter you're in.

Prologue: A Sushi Bar By The Blue Hole. Three missions: A Sushi Bar by the Blue Hole, Repair Bancho Sushi and Prepare Sushi Ingredients. You fix up the restaurant and learn the loop. If you need help with the restaurant side, our Dave the Diver tips guide covers the systems that carry over into the DLC.

Chapter 1: Traces of the Sea People. Eight missions, from Tracking the Sea People through Giant Squid Dish and Speak with the Guests. Giant Squid Dish is a good example of how the story leans on the restaurant as well as the dives.

Chapter 2: Into the Deep. Five missions, including Going Deeper, Sea People Language Translator and Destroy the Entryway. The side mission list is the longest here: twelve entries, from A Noisy Customer to Stormy Night.

Chapter 3: A Request from the Sea People. Two main missions, The Sea People Village's Trust and Duff's Dream Concert. Finishing The Sea People Village's Trust unlocks the Request Board, and the wiki notes FishMon's weekly fish start "the next Saturday after reaching Chapter 3."

Chapter 4: Abandoned Cave. Three missions: To the Abandoned Cave, Find Glacial Passage Key and Deliver Key to Tenzhin. All three revolve around the key that opens the Glacial Passage in Chapter 5.

Chapter 5: Melting Glacier. The biggest chapter by mission count, with ten entries, from Open the door in Glacial Passage to Escape the Pirates. Cobra's Lost Crowbar and Huge Sea People Mirror sit in the middle of it.

Chapter 6: Glacier Zone. Eight missions, starting with Infiltrate the Sea Blue base and Retrieve the Tech Suit Part!, then Explore the Glacial Area, The Missing Beluga and a run of control room steps. Its VIP contest missions also live here.

Chapter 7: Broken Control Room. Two missions: the finale version of Ancient Control Room, then Cause of the earthquake. After the credits, the Epilogue lists To a New Place and Let's Head to the Jungle!, which point toward the DLC.

How far most players get: Steam achievement data

Steam's global achievement stats for Dave the Diver show how far players actually get, because several achievements fire at story milestones. These percentages are for all owners, checked on October 8, 2026:

  • Undersea Civilization! (discovered the under-sea village): 55.0%
  • A Dark and Cold Place (discovered the Glacial Passage): 41.9%
  • Achoo! (entered the Glacial Area for the first time): 35.0%
  • A Peaceful Blue Hole (watched the ending credits): 25.3%

The Glacial Passage is where the wiki's Chapter 4 and 5 missions point, and the Glacial Area is named in Chapter 6's Explore the Glacial Area mission. Read in order, those numbers show the steepest drop in the middle of the story, not at the end: about 13 points of the player base fall away between the village and the Glacial Passage. If you've reached Chapter 5, you're already further than more than half of everyone who owns the game.

Players on the game's subreddit describe the late chapters the same way. In a 2023 thread, u/soggie warned that "the difficulty goes on an exponential spike once you get to the glacier in chapter 6 and 7." A reply in the same thread from u/DustDevilish was blunter: "I totally fell off the game thanks to chapter 7." Not every reply agreed; u/leedisa wrote "I didn't feel the spike in the difficulty."

How long Dave the Diver takes, chapter count aside

HowLongToBeat's Dave the Diver page puts the main story at about 25 hours, main story plus side content at about 34 hours, and completionist play at about 52 hours. Spread over seven chapters and a prologue, that averages roughly three hours per part, though the mission counts above suggest the chapters are far from even.

Much of that time goes to the day and night loop between story beats. Steam's own description sums it up: "Explore and unravel the mysteries in the depths of the Blue Hole by day and run a successful exotic sushi restaurant by night." The wiki notes the first seasonal party event starts "around October 12 in game," so a long playthrough will see those events come and go between chapters.

In the Jungle adds seven more chapters

The paid In the Jungle content pack has its own chapter list on the same wiki page: The Village with Bad Food, Jungle Life!, Diving Suit of the Sunang Civilization, The Sea Beneath the Lake, Fruit of the Blue Divine Tree, Sea People Settlement and Deep Down, followed by Epilogue: Days in the Jungle. Our In the Jungle walkthrough goes through them one at a time, and the In the Jungle launch news covers what the pack added on day one.

Counted with the DLC, Dave the Diver has 14 numbered chapters across two stories, each with its own epilogue. The jungle story also brings new systems, like the Bancho Grill recipes and the jungle staff unlocks.

The base game is a $19.99 list price on Steam, released June 28, 2023 by MINTROCKET, and its Steam reviews sit at Overwhelmingly Positive across more than 163,000 reviews as of October 8, 2026.

Our take

Based on the sources above, the honest answer to "how many chapters" is seven, and the more useful one is that they are uneven. The wiki's mission counts put most of the main missions in Chapters 1, 5 and 6, and Steam's achievement data shows the biggest drop, about 13 points, between discovering the village and reaching the Glacial Passage. The Reddit thread suggests the players who do reach Chapters 6 and 7 split on whether the jump in difficulty is fair. If you are in Chapter 5, the end is two chapters away.
