Wolf Among Us Remastered Price: Is It a Free Upgrade?

Telltale charges everyone, but digital owners of the original pay about half. The catch is PS5, and the store-and-account fine print.

VerdictDigital owners on Steam, Epic or Xbox: $12.49 is fair unless you play ultrawide. New players: buy at $19.99 before November 12.

Wolf Among Us Remastered price is $24.99, and it is not a free upgrade: Telltale charges everyone. What softens it is a launch window that runs until November 12, 2026 at 6 AM PT. New players get 20% off ($19.99 on Steam), and anyone who owns a digital copy of the 2013 original gets 50% off on the same store and account. The remaster came out on October 29 on PC (Steam and Epic), PS5 and Xbox One, which runs on Series X|S through backward compatibility.

The exception is PS5. There the 20% is for PlayStation Plus members only, and owners without PS Plus get 30% off instead of 50%.

Who pays what until November 12

Telltale published the whole grid on its launch discount page and on Steam. Here it is, with the original that counts on each store:

Three rules decide whether you qualify. The original has to be digital: Telltale says physical copies "can't be verified". You buy on the same platform store with the same account you used for the original. And the two offers don't stack. On r/TheWolfAmongUs, one player who owned it on an Xbox 360 disc found out the hard way.

We read Steam's prices on October 30: $19.99 in the US (from $24.99), £17.99 in the UK (from £22.49) and 20,39€ in Germany (from 25,49€), with the store showing "Offer ends November 12". Telltale's own page warns that prices and exact end times differ by region and store, so check yours before November 12. On Steam, owners pay $12.49, half of $24.99, as two players confirmed on launch day.

Not every owner sees that price yet. On October 29 at 4 PM PT, Telltale added a note to its launch discount page: it's "aware of an issue where some owners of the original game aren't seeing the correct discount", and its platform partners are "actively working on a fix". The note doesn't say which stores are affected. Telltale asks affected players to contact its support team, so check that your price shows the owner discount before you pay.

Should you buy the original first to unlock 50%?

No. The 2013 game is still on sale on Steam at $14.99, and Telltale support told a Reddit user it has no plans to delist the original. But $14.99 plus $12.49 is $27.48, against $19.99 for a new player's copy. The owner price only helps people who already bought it.

The story is the same five episodes: Faith, Smoke and Mirrors, A Crooked Mile, In Sheep's Clothing and Cry Wolf. Telltale and co-developer Trick Studios reworked the environments, character models, lighting, animation and audio. In a commented Episode 1 playthrough, YouTuber DomTheBomb noticed the remastered music and said it "sounds a bit better".

On top of that come five playable deleted scenes, cut from the original episodes and now in the special features menu. Noir Mode plays the whole story in black and white, and you can switch it on and off at any time. A gallery holds more than 100 pieces of artwork, next to over an hour of developer interviews.

Our view: the deleted scenes are the real reason to pay twice. A lighting pass on a 2013 game wouldn't justify it on its own, and Noir Mode is a nice extra rather than a reason to buy.

Your choices carry into The Wolf Among Us 2

Telltale confirmed at launch that the big decisions you make in Remastered carry into The Wolf Among Us 2, due in 2027. To make that work, you have to be signed in to a Telltale Account while you play. If you skip the remaster, the sequel lets you set your past choices at the start, with no earlier playthrough needed. So you don't need this remaster to keep your story going into the sequel; it's for anyone who wants to replay the first season first.

If you tried the free Episode 1 demo during Steam Next Fest (it ran until October 26), the full game adds the other four episodes.

What launch-week players are flagging

On October 30 Steam showed the remaster at Very Positive, 90% of 154 reviews. The complaints are specific, and they're worth reading before you buy:

  • Limited ultrawide support. Telltale's support page says the game supports 21:9 "in a limited capacity" and stays "framed for a 16:9 presentation". Three launch-day Steam reviewers report a stretched image on wide monitors. "Ultrawide support is nonexistent and I get a perma stretched screen," wrote Ciri on October 29. Elize93 said TellTaleWidescreenPatcher and SUWSF didn't fix it.
  • Chapter select via rewind is gone. "Give us back Chapter Selection !" wrote Fjordan, who wants to redo single choices for the Book of Fables entries. On Reddit, another player said you now replay a whole episode to pick up entries you missed.
  • 30 fps on consoles. A launch-day Reddit post says the game "seems locked" at 30 fps on PS5 and Series X with no performance toggle. That's one player's report, not a Telltale spec, but the June reveal promised "framerate improvements", so it stings.

Steam Deck players have it easier. Valve rates it Playable, with a note that the default settings don't run well. One Deck reviewer says it works once you switch to controller controls. On PC the bar is low: Steam asks for a GTX 470 at minimum and a GTX 1050 Ti for 1080p at 60 fps on High.

Switch and physical copies

The Switch and Switch 2 versions were on the June platform list, but they missed launch and still have no date. Telltale's pricing sheet says "Discounting will be communicated in the near future" for Switch. Physical editions for several platforms are planned for the first quarter of 2027.

Our take

If you own the original on Steam, Epic or Xbox and don't play on an ultrawide monitor, $12.49 for the deleted scenes is a fair price before November 12. If you've never played it, $19.99 is the price to aim for, and the 13-year-old story still earns that. Ultrawide PC players should wait for a patch. PS5 players without PS Plus get the worst deal: full price if they're new, 30% off if they own the PS4 version. If you'd rather hold out for a bigger cut, our Steam sale calendar lists the next dates. Whether Telltale patches the frame rate on consoles is the thing to watch next.

How we checked this

On October 30, 2026 we read Telltale's launch discount page and the pricing graphic in its October 20 Steam post, Telltale's October 29 launch announcement, the June reveal on telltale.com, and Steam's store data for the remaster (app 3884860) and the original (app 250320) in the US, UK and German stores. We checked the launch coverage from GamesBeat, MonsterVine and Saving Content, the top-rated English Steam reviews and r/TheWolfAmongUs. We haven't played the remaster for this piece, and it isn't a review.
