Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered Crossplay
No crossplay, and online is a 1v1 Quickplay mode whatever two store pages say. On PC, Remote Play Together is how four friends share one fight.
VerdictBuy it on the system your friends already own, because nobody has promised crossplay. On PC, Remote Play Together covers four-player nights; on console, online is a duel.
Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered crossplay does not exist: a Steam player can't fight a PS5, Xbox or Switch 2 player, and we found no Atari statement saying it is coming. Online play is also smaller than two of the store pages suggest. Two reviews published on November 2, the day before launch, found online limited to 1v1, with four-player battles kept to one screen. PowerUp!'s PS5 review a day later found the same: "There's no online four-player chaos, no crossplay" (PowerUp!, November 3). If you want four friends in one fight over the internet, the PC version has the only official route, and it runs through a Steam feature.

What each version lists for online play
We read all four US store pages on November 6. They agree on the price, $29.99. They do not agree on online.
| Version | Store says (online) | Membership for online | What reviewers found |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam) | Online PvP, Shared/Split Screen PvP, Remote Play Together | None | Netcode had no problems; no crossplay "between consoles" (Kaiju United) |
| PS5 | "Supports up to 4 online players with PS Plus" | PlayStation Plus | Online "restricted to one-on-one battles", no crossplay (PowerUp!) |
| Xbox Series X|S | "Online multiplayer (2-4)" | Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate | No review we read tested Xbox online |
| Switch 2 | "Online (2)" | Nintendo Switch Online | "limited to 1v1 Quickplay matches" (Nintendo Wire) |
Sources: Steam, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Nintendo eShop.
The Switch 2 listing is the one that matches the reviews. CBR's review put it plainly: online play "is limited to 1v1 matches and doesn't support crossplay, while the four-player battles remain exclusive to local multiplayer" (CBR, November 2). The Steam demo that ran from October 15 to October 27 was set up the same way: "up to 4 local players, or wreak havoc online in 1 vs 1 quick matches" (Atari on Steam). On PS5, despite the "up to 4" listing, PowerUp!'s review describes online play as one-on-one only. We found no patch note or Atari post that adds online 2v2 or four-player matches, so plan on duels whatever the PlayStation and Xbox listings say.
Did Atari ever promise crossplay?
No. Atari's June 6 announcement promised "online matchmaking" (Games Press), and the store copy on Steam, Xbox and the eShop says "all-new online multiplayer". Neither says cross-platform. The idea came from fan coverage over the summer: a July 11 explainer listed "Cross-platform play across Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC" (Monster Destruction), and that line spread.
The only hint about later comes from a reviewer. Kaiju United, reviewing the PC version, wrote that "there is no crossplay between consoles, but it may be considered for implementation post-launch". The review doesn't say who told them, and we found nothing from Atari to back it. Pipeworks has also been open that the online mode was hard to build: asked how difficult it was, the studio told Nintendo Everything "Very difficult. Unreal has a lot of built-in networking, but it is optimized for certain types of games". After that answer, we would not expect crossplay to arrive in a hotfix.
Players have asked since the reveal. One crossplay thread on the Steam forum is dated June 6, the day Atari announced the game, and a search for "crossplay" there returns 25 threads; none of the four we opened has a developer reply. "This game's online multiplayer will be doa just like mk1 was if it doesn't get crossplay," wrote one fan on October 31 (Steam forum, Jimmylikesmetroid). Another, the day before launch: "Wait MP isnt cross platform!?" (Steam forum, Sephzilla).

How to play with four people online on PC
Steam lists Remote Play Together for this game, and that is the workaround. Valve's description: "one player owns and runs the game, then up to four players" can join, over the internet, for free (Steam Remote Play). The game sees a local match, so the four-player mode the online menu lacks should be available; we haven't run a four-player session ourselves.
- The host owns the game on Steam and launches it. Friends need a Steam account, not a copy.
- The host invites friends from the Steam Friends list to Remote Play Together.
- Once they accept, the host starts a local multiplayer battle and everyone plays on the host's screen.
The catch is that only the host's PC runs the game, and everyone else plays on a stream of it. Remote Play Together is a Steam feature, so it does nothing for PS5, Xbox or Switch 2 owners. Pipeworks says "every game you play (local, online, etc) earns research points for your current project" (Nintendo Everything), so a Remote Play match, which the game treats as a local one, should count toward the host's project too; we haven't seen anyone confirm it. For other four-player games where the online and couch rules differ, see our Lost Castle 2 co-op guide and the Sunderfolk crossplay explainer.
If online matches won't start
Check the membership first, because consoles charge for even 1v1: PlayStation Plus on PS5, Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate on Xbox, and Nintendo Switch Online on Switch 2, per the store pages. Steam needs nothing.
Next, update. Atari has shipped two Steam hotfixes since launch. The November 3 one set VSync "On" by default; the November 4 one "fixes an issue where the character roster can become fully locked out when save data is corrupted" and stops Steam picking the wrong audio output device (Steam news). If your roster locked up after save trouble, that is the patch that addresses it.
An empty queue is a different problem. Nintendo Everything's Switch 2 reviewer could not "find any players to test this with during the review period" (Nintendo Everything, November 2). Without crossplay, each platform has its own pool, so we would set up matches with friends by invite instead of waiting on random matchmaking.

Which version to buy
Pick the platform your friends are on; the game costs $29.99 on all four US stores, so price doesn't decide it. Steam players are happy with it so far: 96% of 949 reviews are positive (Overwhelmingly Positive, read November 6), and the PC version is the only one where four people can share a match without sharing a couch. If you want online 2v2 or console players mixing with PC, we would wait for an Atari announcement instead of buying on the promise of the summer previews. The $5.99 Digital Deluxe Upgrade adds two skins, the Smash Station map and a black and white filter, nothing that changes online play (Steam).

Would Atari open 2v2 online before it opens crossplay? That is the next question for its patch notes.
