Football Manager 27 System Requirements: What FM26 Changed
Same processors and graphics cards as FM26, more memory, older Macs dropped. The spec sheet won't tell you how the 3D match runs; the paid preview will, if you keep Steam's two-hour refund rule in mind.
VerdictIf FM26 ran well on your PC and it has 8 GB of RAM or more, FM27 will install and run. Check the 3D match yourself in the Launch Preview before November 10, and treat two hours of play as your refund limit.
The Football Manager 27 system requirements start at 6 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 960 with 1 GiB of video memory and 20 GB of storage on Windows 10 or 11, and the recommended tier asks for 12 GB and an RTX 2060. Steam's listing and the copies on spec sites match. Compared with FM26, the processors and graphics cards haven't moved at all; the minimum memory has, and so has the oldest macOS you can use. If your PC ran FM26 comfortably, the spec sheet is not what stops you. What it can't tell you is whether the 3D match runs smoothly on your machine, and the cheapest way to find that out is the paid Launch Preview, played as if Steam's two-hour refund limit applies.

FM27 minimum and recommended PC specs
Both tiers need a 64-bit system, DirectX 11 and 20 GB of free space. Sports Interactive gives separate desktop and laptop parts, so check the row that matches your machine.
| Part | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 or 11 with all updates | Windows 11 with all updates |
| CPU, desktop | Intel Core i3-530 or AMD FX-4100 | Intel Core i5-9600 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 |
| CPU, laptop | Intel Core i3-330M or AMD A6-5200 | Intel Core i5-1035G7 or AMD Ryzen 7 3750H |
| Memory | 6 GB RAM | 12 GB RAM |
| GPU, desktop | GeForce GTX 960, Radeon R9 380 or Intel HD 530 | GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 5600 XT |
| GPU, laptop | GeForce GTX 960M, Radeon R9 M375 or Intel HD 530 | RTX 2060 Mobile or Radeon RX 6600M |
| Video memory | 1 GiB | 2 GiB |
| DirectX, storage | DirectX 11, 20 GB | DirectX 11, 20 GB |
The minimum processor also has to support SSE4.2 and SSSE3, and the minimum graphics card needs Shader Model 5.0. Readdork's report gave the minimum card as a GTX 970; Steam says GTX 960, and that is the figure to trust.
For a sense of scale, this is a far lighter sheet than The Sinking City 2 system requirements, which ask for a stronger graphics card (a GTX 1070 with 8 GB of VRAM) and 16 GB of RAM at minimum.

What changed from FM26: more memory, same chips
We pulled the FM26 and FM27 requirement blocks from Steam's store data on November 1 and compared them line by line. The fmscout write-up reaches the same conclusion: "The processors and graphics cards stay the same, but you now need a bit more RAM and VRAM."
| Line | FM26 | FM27 | Changed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum CPU and GPU | i3-530 / FX-4100, GTX 960 / R9 380 / HD 530 | Same parts | No |
| Minimum RAM | 4 GB | 6 GB | Yes, up 2 GB |
| Minimum video memory | 512 MiB | 1 GiB | Yes, doubled |
| Recommended CPU, GPU, RAM | i5-9600 / Ryzen 5 2600, RTX 2060 / RX 5600 XT, 12 GB | Same | No |
| Recommended video memory (PC) | Not listed | 2 GiB | Now stated |
| Windows | Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11 23H2 | Windows 10 or 11 with all updates | Wording only |
| Mac minimum OS | macOS 11 Big Sur to 15 Sequoia | macOS 13, 14, 15 or 26 | Yes, Big Sur and Monterey dropped |
| Mac recommended OS | macOS 13 Ventura to 15 Sequoia | macOS 14, 15 or 26 | Yes, Ventura dropped |
| Storage | 20 GB | 20 GB | No |
Our read: the RAM line is the one that matters. An old office PC with 4 GB met FM26's floor and doesn't meet FM27's. An 8 GB laptop clears the minimum but sits 4 GB under the recommended 12 GB, so close your browser while a match is on. FM26's Steam page also warns that "Microsoft no longer supports Windows 10 or older versions"; FM27 still lists Windows 10 at minimum, but the recommended tier is Windows 11 only.

FM27 on Mac: Intel models only reach the minimum
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | 13, 14, 15 or 26 with all updates | 14, 15 or 26 with all updates |
| Processor | Apple M1 or Intel Core M | Apple M1 |
| Memory | 6 GB | 12 GB |
| Graphics | Apple M1, GeForce GT 750M, Intel HD Graphics 5000 or FirePro D300 | Apple M1 |
| Storage | 20 GB | 20 GB |
Any Apple silicon Mac has at least an M1, so all of them clear the processor line; the 12 GB recommendation is the catch for 8 GB base models. Intel Macs still appear in the minimum column with an Intel Core M and older graphics such as the GT 750M, but no Intel part is listed under recommended. If you're on an Intel MacBook, expect to run at minimum settings, and check your macOS version first: a machine stuck on Monterey can no longer install it.
Steam Deck, Steam Machine and Linux
Steam lists Windows and macOS builds only, with no Linux version, so Steam Deck and Steam Machine run FM27 through Proton. On November 1, Valve's compatibility data had no rating for FM27 on Steam Deck, Steam Machine or Steam Frame. Steam shows that as Unknown, defined as: "We haven't checked this game for compatibility yet."
FM26 is the useful reference point here:
- Steam Deck: Playable. Valve's test flagged in-game text as hard to read on the Deck's screen, while the default controls and performance passed. Playable means "the game may require some manual tweaking by the user to play".
- Steam Machine: Verified. Valve rates the two devices separately, and it notes that "Display tests are not performed for Steam Machine", which is why small text doesn't cost FM26 there.
- ProtonDB: Platinum. The community tracker rates FM26 Platinum from 19 reports. FM27 has no ProtonDB summary yet.
Both FM26 ratings also note that first-time setup needs an internet connection. Our call for Deck owners: with FM27's minimum unchanged on the graphics side, the FM26 rating is the best guide until Valve tests the new game, and the small-text problem is the one to expect. Valve's headset gets its own rating too, and our Steam Frame specs and games guide explains how that works. An Unknown label can change quickly: our Over the Hill Steam Deck guide tracks a game that launched Unknown and was Verified two weeks later, and the Moonlighter 2 Steam Deck performance write-up shows what a Verified badge does and doesn't tell you.

What preview players report on the match engine
The spec sheet and the free preview gave different answers for some players. In a Steam discussion thread titled "FM27 performance, or lack thereof" on October 31, user morkusyambo wrote: "I have a relatively new laptop with a 5070, 32GB of RAM, Intel Core Ultra 7, and Samsung SSD." On the high preset, they said, "the match engine is incapable of running smoothly."
A reply from StuTheMoose in the same thread describes the opposite on a desktop: "Yet mine just sits there on max graphics at a locked 120fps and is smooth as butter (5800xt/9070xt/32gb ram)."
Then McShave07 answered with almost the same graphics card and a very different result: "I turned all the custom detailed grapics settings to full and get between 30-50fps at 1440p. (5800X3D/9070XT/48GB RAM)." StuTheMoose's reply is the closest thing to a settings tip in the thread. They run "Everything max setting" with the frame rate setting on auto and scaling left at 100%, and warn that "going higher on the scaling will bring the FPS down a lot". If your preview frame rate looks wrong on a strong card, check that scaling slider first.
All three machines sit well above the recommended RTX 2060. A few posts in one thread prove nothing about FM27 as a whole, and gaming laptops can behave very differently from desktops with the same badge on the GPU. What they do show is that clearing the recommended tier doesn't guarantee a smooth 3D match, which is why we'd test before trusting the table.
Sports Interactive's First Look stream shows the match day presentation the preview runs:

How to test FM27 on your PC before November 10
The Launch Preview, which Sports Interactive says "replaces what has previously been titled Beta / Advanced Access", was free to everyone on PC and Mac from 6pm GMT on October 29 until 6pm GMT on November 3. Since then it continues for two groups until launch on November 10:
- Pre-purchasers through SEGA-approved digital retailers. On Steam that is $53.99 instead of $59.99, with the 10% off running until launch.
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers, who play through the subscription and don't need to buy anything.
Sports Interactive gives launch day as November 10 without a time. Steam's store page data has FM27 unlocking at 16:00 UTC that day (we read it at 02:52 UTC on November 5), so that is when the preview window closes and the full game starts:
| What | Your time (UTC) | UTC | US Eastern | US Pacific | UK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free play ended, preview continues | Tue, Nov 3 6:00 PM | Tue, Nov 3 18:00 | Tue, Nov 3 1:00 PM | Tue, Nov 3 10:00 AM | Tue, Nov 3 6:00 PM |
| FM27 unlocks on Steam | Tue, Nov 10 4:00 PM | Tue, Nov 10 16:00 | Tue, Nov 10 11:00 AM | Tue, Nov 10 8:00 AM | Tue, Nov 10 4:00 PM |
Steam's refund policy is what makes pre-purchasing a fair test, with one grey area. When you buy a game before its release date, "the two-hour playtime limit for refunds will apply (except for beta testing), but the 14-day period for refunds will not start until the release date", and playtime in Early Access or Advance Access "will count against the two-hour refund limit". Sports Interactive says the Launch Preview "replaces what has previously been titled Beta / Advanced Access", and neither Valve nor SEGA says which of those two cases Steam treats it as. So assume the preview counts and treat two hours as your limit. The 14 days only start on November 10.
Spend those two hours on the heavy parts: one full 3D match at your usual detail level, then a few weeks of in-game time with the leagues you normally load. Saves carry over, since "All saves started during the free play period can be continued through to both the paid Launch Preview and full launch", so nothing you play is wasted if you keep it. If it stutters on a machine that clears the minimum, ask for a refund before you reach two hours. On Game Pass the same test costs only the subscription, and the Xbox PC app is a day one platform.

Mistakes to avoid
| Mistake | Why it catches people |
|---|---|
| Reading the desktop row for a laptop | Steam lists separate laptop parts, such as a GTX 960M at minimum and an RTX 2060 Mobile recommended |
| Assuming 8 GB is "recommended" | It clears the 6 GB minimum; the recommended tier is 12 GB |
| Planning to stay on Windows 10 for the long run | It is still accepted at minimum, but the recommended tier lists Windows 11 only |
| Installing on a Mac running Monterey or Big Sur | FM27's floor is macOS 13; FM26 accepted both older versions |
| Reading Steam Deck "Unknown" as "won't run" | Unknown only means Valve hasn't tested it; FM26 is Playable on the same hardware |
| Playing past two hours before deciding | Steam counts Advance Access playtime against its two-hour refund limit, and nobody has said the Launch Preview is exempt |
Our take
FM27 is a memory update on paper, and a mild one. Steam lists the same processors and graphics cards for FM27 as for FM26, so if FM26 runs well for you, the table is unlikely to be your problem. The 4 GB PCs and pre-Ventura Macs that FM26 still accepted are the machines left behind. The real unknown is the 3D match on mid-range and laptop hardware, and players with the same graphics card already disagree about it. Use the preview, keeping under two hours if you might want a refund, or Game Pass, to find out on your own machine; that beats any requirement chart, this one included. If you're still deciding where to spend a game budget this month, our Valor Mortis price and specs guide and Fogpiercer Game Pass review cover two very different options.

How we checked this
On November 1, 2026 we pulled the requirement blocks for Football Manager 27 and Football Manager 26 from Steam's store data and compared them line by line; the FM26 vs FM27 table is our own. We checked them against fm27.wiki, FM Scout and can-you-run-it's copies of the listing, which match Steam. We read Valve's compatibility data for both games (Steam Deck, Steam Machine and Steam Frame), Valve's definitions on steamdeck.com and its partner documentation, and ProtonDB's summaries for both apps. We read Sports Interactive's Launch Preview and launch date posts, the Steam refunds page, and one Steam discussion thread on preview performance. On November 5 we read the unlock time from the FM27 Steam page. Nobody at GameBrief has run FM27, so there are no in-house benchmarks here. Store prices are as of November 1 and can change.
