Five Steam Next Fest survival games have confirmed October 2026 demos, and two of them are already playable. This list covers what each developer has said about its demo: the date, the co-op limit, and the catch, such as a save wipe or a one-day delay.

None of us has played these builds. Everything below comes from the store pages, the studios' own Steam posts and their official trailers, linked in the references.

TL;DR: Next Fest runs October 19 to 26 (10:00 AM PDT both ends). Keelblade and Arctic Drive already have demos out, dated October 8. Frostrail's demo lands with the fest, Never Wither's on October 20, and No Mortal Space ships a new demo that will not load old saves. All five list online co-op.

Which Steam Next Fest survival games have demos? (quick answer)

The five Steam Next Fest survival games with confirmed October demos are Frostrail, Never Wither, Keelblade, No Mortal Space and Arctic Drive. Keelblade and Arctic Drive went live on October 8. Frostrail and No Mortal Space say October 19, and Never Wither says October 20. None can be bought yet, so the demo is the only way in.

Key Takeaways

  • Valve's window is October 19, 10:00 AM PDT, to October 26, 10:00 AM PDT. Press preview opened on October 8.
  • Two demos are live early: Keelblade (pirate RPG for crews of 1 to 6) and Arctic Drive (1 to 4 player road-trip survival).
  • Frostrail has the biggest published numbers here: more than 70,000 players joined its closed beta, and it passed 500,000 wishlists.
  • Never Wither's demo covers one region, Verdant Valley, with 19 creature species and 4 bosses.
  • No Mortal Space's new demo will not read saves from its July demo.

Overview: Next Fest dates and survival demo status

If you have room for one survival game a month, our Valheim complete guide and Palworld guide cover the two this site plays most.

Frostrail: a survival FPS built around a steam train

Frostrail is a first-person survival shooter where your base is a steam train. The Steam page calls it a "ruthless survival FPS, solo or co-op" and asks you to "operate and upgrade your steam-powered train through an unforgiving wasteland." FakeFish develops it, Shiro Unlimited publishes it, and Early Access is planned for Q4 2026.

The demo is the safe bet on this list. The studio's post says it is "available from October 19 to October 26," and the closed beta drew "more than 70,000 enthusiastic players" before the game passed 500,000 wishlists. A spring update added Relics that players find in dungeons and "activate them aboard the train for temporary buffs."

Playtesters were split in a useful way. One wrote on r/Frostrail that it was "really fun to play so far" and that "the game saves when you go through the tunnels." Another liked the pitch but called the build "a bit of a slog" and begged for a deposit-all button. The demo is the first public chance to see whether that inventory work got lighter. If cold-weather survival is your thing, the Winter Burrow guide and our Permafrost hub cover two more.

Never Wither: creature survival with a one-day-late demo

Never Wither is an "open world survival crafting ARPG" where you can "transform into almost any creature you encounter." Geo Seed Games develops it and Luckycalf publishes it. In April the studio said it expected a release "within 2026"; the store page still says coming soon.

Check the date before you look for it. Every studio post says you can download the demo "on October 20," the day after the fest opens, and none gives a time. The demo opens Verdant Valley, which "is home to 19 species of creatures and 4 bosses," and it "supports online multiplayer" through P2P. Dedicated servers are planned for after launch. If you want a creature-and-base game you can play in full today, start with our Palworld guide.

Keelblade: pirate survival RPG, demo already out

Keelblade, formerly Triarchy, is a "fantasy pirate RPG" for crews of 1 to 6 players with a "soulslike combat system." Digital Confectioners develops and publishes it, and the full game is planned for 2027. Its demo has an October 8, 2026 release date on Steam, so you can play it before the fest starts.

The rename came with a bigger game. The studio says Triarchy's online co-op "supported up to three players," then "we rebuilt the world as an open archipelago and introduced a ship," expanding to crews of 1 to 6. The developers called this their "BIG demo for Steam Next Fest."

No Mortal Space: new demo, old saves will not carry over

No Mortal Space asks you to "rise from a mortal to a cosmic deity in this voxel-based, open-world survival craft game." Stellia Games develops and publishes it. It already had a demo in July, which offered "around 5-10 hours of main quest gameplay," online multiplayer, and only two explorable planets.

The Next Fest build replaces it. Stellia says the new demo arrives "starting October 19th" and "will not be compatible with save files from the current Demo," and it switched off old demo downloads from October 2. If you sank hours into the July build, expect to start over. Cultivation-survival fans can compare it with Murim Survival, which has a full build and endgame guide here.

Arctic Drive: co-op road-trip survival

Arctic Drive is a "co-op survival sim set in a procedurally generated winter wilderness" for 1 to 4 players, where "your car is the only thing keeping you alive." Pebbles Games and PlayTogether Studio develop it, and Bonus Stage Publishing publishes. Early Access starts on November 25, 2026, the only firm launch day on this list.

The demo went out on October 8 and already has a patch, v0.18.0, from October 10. In September the team promised a Next Fest demo with "QoL improvements, updated POIs (points of interests) and new car decorations." Driving fans should also watch Over the Hill, a different take on long drives over hostile ground.

Analysis: which survival demo to download first

Start with what is live. Keelblade and Arctic Drive are both playable now and both lean on co-op. Arctic Drive also has a launch day, November 25, which makes its demo the most useful buying test on this list.

On October 19, Frostrail is the priority for most players. Its studio has posted the biggest numbers on this list, and playtester complaints about inventory busywork give you something specific to check. Never Wither is the pick for creature-collecting fans, but remember it is a day later. Leave No Mortal Space for last if you played the July demo, because the new build starts you from zero.

Our take

This is a strong survival lineup with an unusual amount of co-op: all five list online co-op on Steam. The safest download is Frostrail, the most interesting gamble is Never Wither, and Arctic Drive is the one where the demo leads straight to a purchase decision a month later. We will not judge how any of them plays until we have played them.
