Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon turned one on May 23. Questline shipped the fifth free DLC alongside patch 1.23 to mark it: a new quest, fresh gear, and a long-overdue fix to the Fisher King achievement that the community has been complaining about since launch.

TL;DR: Free DLC 5 adds the Birthday Quest (five armor sets, Spellflow Wand, Trailshot Bow), Summon Sir Lancelot, and fishing gear. Patch 1.23 fixes the Fisher King's Successor achievement by letting players buy fish from vendors. 31,514 Steam reviews, 88% Very Positive after a year. Five free DLC drops total since 1.0.

Key takeaways

  • Developer: Questline (Polish indie studio)
  • Game: Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon: 1.0 launched May 23, 2025
  • Steam: 31,514 reviews, 88% positive, "Very Positive"
  • Price: $44.99
  • DLC 5 (Bonus Content #3: Anniversary) released May 22, 2026: free
  • Patch 1.23 ships alongside the DLC
  • Total post-1.0 free DLC: five drops in twelve months

What's in free DLC 5

The Anniversary DLC unlocks a Birthday Quest after players complete the Cuanacht story arc. Finishing it rewards five armor sets, a Spellflow Wand, and a Trailshot Bow. New items also include the Professional Fishing Rod, Royal Fishing Rod, Angler's Cap, and Malcolm's Journal.

Summon Sir Lancelot is the headliner spell: available as a Birthday Quest reward, and also added as a completion reward for the Lancelot dungeon. Players already past that dungeon can get it through the new quest.

Patch 1.23: the Fisher King fix

The most community-relevant change in 1.23 isn't combat tuning. The Fisher King's Successor achievement previously required players to catch fish manually with a rod: a slow grind that had been a complaint thread fixture since launch. Patch 1.23 lets players buy fish from vendors to complete it instead.

Other 1.23 changes:

  • Sanguine Sting health cost: 5 → 10; bleed now scales properly with Arrow Draw Strength
  • Frozen Seer's Vestment stack overflow crash fixed
  • Challenge Mode: Recurring Threat's Arcane Discharge spawns reduced from 5 to 1; Seek and Destroy repeat strike reduced from 33% to 15%; Corpsewake base damage adjusted 10 → 25
  • New Sort Items keybind added for keyboard controls

One year, five free drops

Since 1.0 in May 2025, Questline has shipped five free DLC drops:

  1. Bonus Content #1 (December 2025)
  2. Bonus Content #2 (March 2026)
  3. Merlin's Tomb (April 2, 2026)
  4. Challenge Mode (April 30, 2026)
  5. Bonus Content #3: Anniversary (May 22, 2026)

The paid Sanctuary of Sarras DLC shipped alongside the first bonus content in December 2025 and added roughly 10-15 hours of story content.

At $44.99, Tainted Grail is priced at the higher end for indie RPGs. The post-launch track record is what makes that defensible: five free content drops in twelve months, each with actual balance patching, is a real number.

If post-launch support is the variable you're watching, the All Hail the Orb alchemy guide covers another indie roguelite with a similar track record. Kristala's spells guide is relevant if you want a fantasy RPG that's been actively patched. Die in the Dungeon's tips guide covers a dungeon-crawler in the same indie tier.
