Shrek 2 Remastered Release Date, Time, Price and Co-op

Aspyr's remaster of the 2004 console game unlocks at the same hour on three stores, costs $29.99 everywhere, and adds online play. If you grew up with the PC version, it is not the game you remember.

VerdictDo not pre-order on Steam or Switch: the $26.99 price lasts until November 17 there, so you can wait for launch-day impressions and still pay less. It is the console game with online co-op added, not the 2004 PC adventure.

The Shrek 2 Remastered release date is Tuesday, November 10, 2026, and on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S it unlocks at the same moment: 17:00 UTC. All three stores carry that exact timestamp in their listings, which is rarer than it should be. Aspyr is also releasing it on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 the same day, where the eShop gives the date but no hour. Every version costs $29.99. Steam, Xbox, Switch and Switch 2 list a 10% pre-order price of $26.99; on PS5 that price is for PlayStation Plus members only.

The PlayStation Store lists "2026-11-10T17:00:00Z" for its PS5 version, and the Xbox Store and Steam carry the same moment. That is 9am Pacific, noon Eastern and 6pm in central Europe. Aspyr's official site also links an Epic Games Store page. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version: PlayStation lists PS5 only and Xbox lists Series X|S only.

On Switch 2, one player reports that a digital pre-order also downloaded the Switch 1 version automatically (u/gintherthegreat, r/NintendoSwitch2, November 4). Nintendo sells the two as separate listings at the same price, so check what your account shows before buying twice.

What the remaster changes

Aspyr's feature list is short. Everything "has been rebuilt with better textures, enhanced UI, 4K resolution and cutscenes", and there are two additions: a Photo Mode and a Cheats Menu (official site). The bigger change is how you play together. The 2004 console game was a couch co-op game; the remaster offers "up to 4-Player Couch Co-Op, Online Multiplayer, and Mixed Online Multiplayer & Couch Co-Op", the last being Aspyr's name for a session that combines players on one console with players online.

The store pages back that up. Xbox lists "Xbox local co-op (2-4)" and "Online co-op (2-4)", and Steam adds Shared/Split Screen Co-op and Remote Play Together, which lets one PC owner invite friends who do not own the game. Online play on PS5 requires PlayStation Plus, and on Switch and Switch 2 the eShop says a "Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately)" is required. Neither Aspyr nor the stores mention cross-platform play, so assume online co-op works only with friends on the same system until Aspyr says otherwise.

PC requirements and Steam Deck

The PC version asks for little: Windows 11 64-bit, an Intel i5-10400 or Ryzen 5 3600, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA 1060 or AMD RX 570, DirectX 12 and 15 GB of storage at minimum. The recommended tier doubles the memory to 16 GB and asks for a GTX 1070 or RX 5700 (Steam). Valve has already rated it Verified on Steam Deck, including the check that its default settings run well (Valve's compatibility report). Steam lists English as the only language, with full audio.

Which Shrek 2 this is

This matters more than any spec. In 2004, Shrek 2 on PS2, Xbox and GameCube was developed by Luxoflux and published by Activision; PC players got a different game made by KnowWonder, and later a port of the console version called Shrek 2: Team Action (Wikipedia). The remaster is of the console game, and that has caught some fans out. "I originally thought the Shrek 2 remaster would be this game, but it's a completely different game," wrote one r/Shrek user, posting the PC version (u/Tonny1055, October 17). Another explained that Team Action got its name "since it had co-op" (u/IAmSkyrimWarrior).

So expect the console structure: 11 levels, a team of four you can switch between at any point, party-wide minigames such as punching chickens into cook pots, and "Hero Time" challenges built around one character, such as Donkey chasing a fleeing onion wagon on Dragon's back. Aspyr's own site sells it as "the cult-classic, button-mashing co-op adventure", which is the console game in a phrase. Early reactions after the Xbox listing appeared on October 16 assumed it was an Xbox exclusive (JoeFromSeattle); the October 20 announcement put it on every current platform.

Should you pre-order?

On Steam and Switch there is no reason to pre-order. Steam's $26.99 offer ends on November 17 and the eShop sale ends at 07:59 UTC that day, so you can wait for launch-day impressions and still pay less. Xbox is different: its discount ends at 16:59:59 UTC on November 10, one second before the unlock, and the PS5 PlayStation Plus price also ends at launch. We found no reviews or hands-on impressions as of November 5, and the feature list does not say whether the original's levels or camera were changed. If you want something proven for the same group of friends now, our best co-op games list has picks, and for other remaster pricing this season see The Wolf Among Us Remastered and The Witcher 3 Remastered.
