Reviewing
Subnautica 2
The latest Subnautica 2 update is here, and it is a small but pointed one. Hotfix 3 went live on June 1, 2026, and it targets two things players have complained about since early access opened: a base-building material grind and an annoying little fish. It also quietly slips in a meaningful tech upgrade.
The headline for base builders is the Interior Wall. Its construction cost dropped to one-quarter of what it was. If you have tried to wall off a sprawling habitat in early access, you know how fast titanium and other materials drained. Cutting that to 25% is the kind of change that retroactively makes every base you have built feel less punishing.
The Nibbler got the nerf players asked for. Its perception range is down, so the pest stops swarming you from across a biome. The Hammerhead was also adjusted: it no longer attacks unmanned Tadpole vehicles, though it still circles them with interest. The Marrowbreach now hits harder but attacks less often, a trade that makes encounters more readable.
On the tech side, DLSS jumped to version 4.5 with crash fixes, and Frame Generation reached more game versions. Two multiplayer-relevant bugs also got squashed: clients failing to rejoin sessions, and a Strike Armor modification stacking exploit.
For the systems these changes touch, our Subnautica 2 base building guide covers habitat planning, and the Subnautica 2 complete guide maps the wider survival loop.
Three patches in under two weeks of the launch window tells you Unknown Worlds is watching feedback closely, which is exactly what you want from a fresh early-access survival game. None of these are dramatic, but the Interior Wall change in particular removes a daily friction point. The previous round of fixes is logged in our Subnautica 2 Hotfix 2 notes if you want the running history.
Hotfixes are the appetizer. Unknown Worlds has signaled a larger content drop that expands the world with new biomes, creatures, resources, tools, vehicles, and the next chapter of the story. Two specific items have been flagged: a new Leviathan zone and voice chat for co-op. The Leviathan zone is the one I am watching, because Subnautica has always lived or died on the dread of what is in the next trench. Our Subnautica 2 Leviathan guide covers the apex creatures already in the water.
